Match Thread: Sheffield Utd v Newcastle
From NUFC.com:
The Magpies return to Premier League action tonight, facing the basement-dwelling Blades at Bramall Lane.
It's a 6pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.
Steve Bruce faces yet another one of his former clubs, having ended his playing career there in the 1998/99 season and begun managing them full time.
He returns with his current side winless in seven league and cup games, his worst run of form as Magpies boss. One win in ten attempts saw him jettisoned by Aston Villa in October 2018.
NUFC: Omitted from the squad that lost in the FA Cup on Saturday but spotted training on Monday were Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez and Karl Darlow.
It remains to be seen whether any of Jonjo Shelvey, Jamal Lewis, Javier Manquillo, Ryan Fraser are included on Tuesday.
Allan Saint-Maximin remains unavailable while Jamaal Lascelles lasted 45 minutes of his comeback at the Emirates before being replaced due to fatigue.
SUFC: Jack Rodwell, Sander Berge and Oli McBurnie remain sidelined, while there are doubts over Enda Stevens, Lys Mousset and George Baldock.
Wolves, Leeds, Manchester City, West Ham and Everton all won here while keeping clean sheets while Leicester City and Manchester United also took three points.
The only side not to win at Bramall Lane this season was Fulham, who drew 1-1.
Ahead of our visit, Chris Wilder's side won 3-2 at Bristol Rovers in their FA Cup Third Round tie on Saturday.
That was Wilder's 100th victory in charge of the Blades in all competitions, coming 22 games after the 99th.

I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

We will need a miracle to beat them. I can 100% guarantee we will lose tonight.
Kindly deeds done for free!
Re: Match Thread: Sheffield Utd v Newcastle
I'm optimistic. I think we'll draw 1-1 with a late equaliser and Steve Bruce will spin it as a positive. 'The response to going behind was fantastic, we've conceded a soft goal but we've dusted ourselves down, rolled our sleeves up and got ourselves a good point.'biggeordiedave wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 10:03 amWe will need a miracle to beat them. There's a lot of negativity on here this morning!
Re: Match Thread: Sheffield Utd v Newcastle
Darlow
Yedlin Fernandez Clarke Lewis
Murphy Hayden M.Longstaff Almiron
Gayle Wilson

Gayle Wilson
4-4-F-2, high tempo, high press. Defensive vulnerability for sure with Yedlin and Lewis at full back but we can overwhelm them going forward. If we're not going to attack this game we might as well give up and embrace the Championship.
I had the first custom w***

You've supported Newcastle for a long time, you know what is going to happen tonight.

Is Manquillo still injured? If not, I'd like to see him play, at least he can kinda cross the ball.

"My job is to try and keep this team in the Premier League. It won't be easy, we know it won't, there's great quality in the division from 1st to 20th but if we knuckle down and continue to fight, and get a bit of luck along the way, I believe we can survive. 40 points is still the aim, as it always has been."ALF wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 10:26 amI'm optimistic. It does feel a bit like the Palace or Burnley matches that we won. Nobody is looking forward to it, everybody is expecting a s*** game, two poor teams, maybe we’ll come away with the 3 points...

1 1 draw, Shelvey scores a pen in the last minute after a turgid performance to keep him in the team

Bruce would take. a draw now if offered , that’s my issue with him. Overriding negativity and containment. I would love to see us use pace and width and batter three past this lot .........however
