NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
Re: NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
That can't last forever though, he's getting on a bit so whether his legs can still take full seasons of 46 games is a big question.

You've got to fancy he wants a 3 or 4 year deal, too. Final payday. If we went down I'd take a chance if we could get him on a couple of year contract, if we stay up I'd look to replace with someone who's younger and more reliable from an injury point of view.
Or...bring Rondon home

This. I miss Rondon.Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 4:40 pmYou've got to fancy he wants a 3 or 4 year deal, too. Final payday. Would be a great partner / cover for Wilson. Experienced, strong, chip in with a few goals & great work-rate. Better 2nd choice than Joelinton, Carroll & Gayle that's for sure.

Gayle is seemingly always injured, no thanks.
Rondon though
Sign him up Brucey, you useless scrote

Lazaar is signing for Watford.

I'd extend Gayles contract and try to use him to get Armstrong back, 8-10m + Gayle would be a good deal for Blackburn considering we have the 40% sell on clause.

Doubt Blackburn could pay his wages and perhaps Gayle doesn't want to move there/Blackburn have other targets. It's a lovely sounding plan till it inevitably doesn't work and you're stuck with Gayle for another 2 years.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 12:33 pmI'd extend Gayles contract and try to use him to get Armstrong back, 8-10m + Gayle would be a good deal for Blackburn considering we have the 40% sell on clause.
Re: NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
Doubt Gayle would want to sign an extension anyway
Re: NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
This or give them one of the Longstafs on loan as part of a deal.. or even better give them Ritchie + 10mil?Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 12:33 pmI'd extend Gayles contract and try to use him to get Armstrong back, 8-10m + Gayle would be a good deal for Blackburn considering we have the 40% sell on clause.

Ritchie wants to go home, to Bournemouth to be with his family. "Cheers Matt, off you go to Blackburn. Enjoy". It just doesn't work like that, sadly.

Yeah fair point. I'll love to get Toney back.. give them 10mil + Gayle? Straight replacement..Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 11:28 amRitchie wants to go home, to Bournemouth to be with his family. "Cheers Matt, off you go to Blackburn. Enjoy". It just doesn't work like that, sadly.

In all seriousness I think they could get another £30m for Toney if they don't go up. No doubt have the next young replacement lined up, too. Gayle will leave on a free and end up somewhere like QPR or Bournemouth.

100%. What did Watkins go for? He was around £30m with add-ons. Brentford paid around £20m for Toney so easily will want £30m+ given his age and goals this season.Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 1:28 pmIn all seriousness I think they could get another £30m for Toney if they don't go up. Maybe we should recruit the Brentford scouting team instead. Season after season they seem to bring in some young relatively unknown player, get 20+ goals a season from him and then sell him on for a massive profit.
Meanwhile we spunk £40m on Joelinton and £15m (?) on Lewis. I'm not sure either of those would get in the current Brentford first team.

Re: NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
Seems that Gayle is getting a 3-year contract extension.
Slightly surprised given his age (31 now) and Bruce hardly plays him. If we get relegated then he's a good striker to have for next season as that's his level, but would have thought a 12-month / 2 year contract would be more likely.

Even with this, he's older than last time we were down there and probably more injury prone. Just seems an odd move.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 1:40 pmSeems that Gayle is getting a 3-year contract extension.

With exciting news like this I can hardly wait for the "NUFC minor/untrusted transfer rumours (Summer 2021)" thread.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 1:40 pmSeems that Gayle is getting a 3-year contract extension.

Re: NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
like a new signing...
Re: NUFC Out of Contract Players: Keep or Ditch?
He's 31.. he's going to be 32 this year October so getting on a bit now but with his experience, mobility & finishing he'll help us next season scrape the play-offs. You know with him he's bound to at least get you 15 - 20 goals or more if he's fit.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 1:40 pmSeems that Gayle is getting a 3-year contract extension.

He's never hit double figures in the Prem.. his highest scoring season was back with Palace in 2013-2014 season with 7 goals & 6 goals with us (2017-2018 season).. but in the Championship with more space to exploit, slower & more open defenses it suits his style. Only thing is it seems to me he's lost a yard of pace, injury-prone/fitness issues & The Championship is getting harder every season, but if I'm a betting man minimum he'll get you 15 goals at that level. Him & Carroll / Joelinton should be a good duo when we're facing teams like Luton Town away.
