Match day thread - NUFC v palace
Crystal Palace (h)
The Magpies face the Eagles behind closed doors at SJP tonight (Tuesday), in an 8.15pm kick-off live on BT Sport.
NUFC: Jamaal Lascelles will be missing after reportedly damaging a hamstring during Saturday's victory at Everton. Ryan Fraser meanwhile hasn't trained this week due to sickness.
Ciaran Clark came off the bench to replace him, but it's unclear whether Federico Fernandez will be fit enough to feature. He's missed the last four matches due to injury.
CPFC: Connor Wickham, Jeffrey Schlupp, Mamadou Sakho, Wayne Hennessey, Nathan Ferguson and James Tomkins are all unavailable.
Palace ended a run of just one victory in ten league and cup fixtures by defeating Wolves 1-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
They've failed to score a goal in their most recent four away games in all competitions - a run of 416 minutes.

Yep, need to go into it with exactly the same desire and attitude we showed against Everton. We've seen it before under Bruce that we get a good/unexpected result and follow that up with a perceived 'easier' fixture and we get turned over.
If we play like we did on Saturday we can/should definitely get something out of this, Palace aren't bad away from home and Zaha (and Eze) will always be a threat but if we lose this it's just a return to the same old Bruce cycle.
I'm going for a 1-0 home win...

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v palace
Tonight is a must win game to create some additional space between us and the bottom 4/5 teams as Burnley, Fulham and Brighton have tough games.
Have a feeling that Sheffield will get their 3rd win of the season tonight and Arsenal should beat Wolves.

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v palace
This. We need to make this momentum count as too many times we get a unexpected / out of the blue result but then against a ''easier'' side we'll put up a stinker and lose/draw. Palace have dangerous attackers but there midfield & defense is average & leaky so we need to take advantage & proper go for it.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 11:21 amYep, need to go into it with exactly the same desire and attitude we showed against Everton. Suspect it will be the team from Saturday with Clark in for Lascelles and ASM in for Fraser
Re: Match day thread - NUFC v palace
This.. I really do want us to eventually put all three of our best attacking outlets apart from Wilson on the pitch at the same time to support him.. Fraser - Miggy - ASM with Hayden holding DM & Willock no.8 box-to-box linking defense to attack. Could we see that at Southampton this weekend?Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 1:35 pmSuspect it will be the team from Saturday with Clark in for Lascelles and ASM in for Fraser

f*** me Conor Wickham still knocking about Palace. Must be on too much money to farm out on loan. Eight league goals since 2015

That was my reaction too! Talk about a career that went nowhere. Can't believe he's still at Palace, although his goal scoring record is still sadly better than too many of the forwards we've had in the past decade.Colback's Orange Tufts wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 2:19 pmf*** me Conor Wickham still knocking about Palace. Disappointed to learn we're not playing the 6pm kick-off

Actually looking forward to our match for the first time in what feels like living memory (so I am still bracing myself for the classic Newcastle thing)

Same team other than Clark in for Lascelles.

Hopefully the same diamond formation thingy against Everton as well. I didn't watch that game but based on the comments in the match thread, looking forward to this one.

First time for a while that I'm feeling confident tonight as long as we play the same tactics/formation as Saturday.

Kinda looking forward to this and feeling slightly confident which means we will obviously lose.
Re: Match day thread - NUFC v palace
Bit disappointed at no ASM from the start given Fraser has supposedly been ill. Granted that might be because I just brought him into my fantasy team.
