Love this from NUFC.com
In the week that COVID restrictions began to ease, Newcastle provided some much-needed (PL) table service at Gallowgate on Saturday - although the outdoor hospitality from both sides was worryingly abundant...

This. When that Lingard goal went in I felt so frustrated & thought to myself ''Why I do put myself through this unnecessary stress that is watching Newcastle United'' and then Willock comes on and scores a rocket header! You gotta love it.. always some sort of drama with us, we never seem to make it comfortable or easy. I felt he should have brought on Willock earlier & brought on Carroll for the last 10 mins to hold up the ball up as Joelinton was ineffective & tiring. It's soo frustrating & annoying seeing us go deeper in our box, be negative & defensive against 10 men when we should be going for the kill & attacking with energy & tempo instead of having to go for it after they pegged us back when it could have been too late. Literally Willock's saved on us like 2/3 occasions.. crucial moments & could be a crucial player for us in the coming years if we sign him.. always looking to go forward, direct, energetic & fearless! A real breath of fresh air in a midfield which needed a spark. Talking about Arsenal loaness... would anyone take Reiss Nelson? talented young 21yr old winger who can't get a game for them but impressed the season before at Hoffenhiem.. could be another Lookman were he just needs the right club to nurture him & showcase his talent.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 2:57 pmI'll admit that I could see where we were coming from in trying to manage the game in the second half, but we took it to overkill levels. There was zero excuse for how negative we were, Bruce sat and watched whilst West Ham piled the pressure on, it was obvious where the game was heading because of how negative we were. It's insane that we didn't pressure 10 men at all and at least make them work hard for the last 45. The worst thing about today is now Bruce is actually being praised for snatching a win, he's literally made a sure win into a smash and grab story.
Liverpool next away.. not expecting nothing.. maybe time to freshen things up?
Dubra
Fernandez Clark Dummet
Murphy Longstaff Shelvey Ritchie
Willock**
Wilson ------ Miggy*
*If ASM is not fit enough.. I would also like to see what Miggy could do in ASM's position a bit further forward so he can make runs in behind.
**Willock deserves a start & to match against Liverpool's three in midfield, with Willock having the most license to go forward
Re: Match day thread - NUFC v WHU
Our second half performance was pathetic. It completely nullified the fact that they had 10 men. A back 5 with Shelvey sitting deep as well passing backwards constantly before letting one of the 6 behind him hoof it.

Had to listen to the match on the radio via my phone so when my mate in Singapore called me the instant West Ham equalised, he never mentioned our third goal so I spent the next few hours miffed that we'd thrown away a two goal lead.

Why we were so negative 2-0 up vs 10 men I do not know. As soon as we invited pressure you could just see what was going to happen. Fair play for digging in then going at them for the winner but it should never have gotten to that stage.

We seem to have done the same for years regardless of who’s in charge. Games like West Brom under Pardew (I think) we were 3-0 up and cruising and let them pull it back to 3-2, obviously under Rafa he was very pragmatic and we rarely pushed home our advantage, and quite often the same with Bruce when we’re in front.Blue & Maroon wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 11:53 amWhy we were so negative 2-0 up vs 10 men I do not know. That aside, one defeat in 7, and 7 points from our last 3 games shows that the players have some fight in them after the shambles at Brighton which we all thought was the end of the road.

3 v 3 in the end. Absolutely cruising and then played like we had already won the game in the 2nd half.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 12:11 pmWe seem to have done the same for years regardless of who’s in charge. Wasn't that the game Ashley promised non-playing staff a bonus if Newcastle won - remember being there, last game of the season if I recall correctly.originallad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 12:24 pm3 v 3 in the end. Oh yeah, if we won that we'd have finished top 10 and the non-playing staff would get a bonus. But with the draw we finished 11th or something.UlversToon wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 4:15 pmWasn't that the game Ashley promised non-playing staff a bonus if Newcastle won - remember being there, last game of the season if I recall correctly.originallad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 12:24 pm

Somen Tchoyi scored a hat trick. He only scored 7 goals in total in 41 games for West Brom.originallad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 12:24 pm3 v 3 in the end. Absolutely cruising and then played like we had already won the game in the 2nd half.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 12:11 pm

And it just highlights that better, more confident teams have fun and attack more when they are battering the opposition, our attitude irrespective of manager has been for years to be grateful we've scored at all and see out the match passively defending the lead.ALF wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 2:49 pmSomen Tchoyi scored a hat trick.
