Match day thread - NUFC v Sheffield United
Sheffield United (h)
The Magpies conclude their PL home campaign on Wednesday night, when the already-relegated Blades visit SJP.
Steve Bruce's side will start the game in seventeenth spot aka fourth bottom, as a consequence of Brighton's 3-2 home win over Manchester City on Tuesday.
It's a 6pm kick-off live on Sky Sports, with a crowd of up to 10,000 permitted to be present - the first time fans have been allowed into a Newcastle game since the 1-0 success at Southampton in March 2020.
A health questionnaire must be completed and returned in order to gain admission. That is online here
NUFC have published specific guidance online here about mask wearing, identity checks, food and drink etc - pay particular attention to MATCHDAY FAQS.
The X50 Metro Centre Park & Ride matchday bus will not operate on Wednesday and the Great Park park & ride site is currently out of use.
The Newcastle United Foodbank stall and collectors will be back in their usual spots along Strawberry Place from 4pm - donations of food and cash welcome.
Thanks to Magpin, there will also be a limited number of the two fundraising shirt badges he produced based on this season's away kits available in return for making a donation to the FB.
NUFC: Fabian Schar serves the last of his three match suspension, while fitness issues will rule out Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow.
Both Ryan Fraser and Isaac Hayden have now returned to training, but neither will be considered for service again this season according to Steve Bruce on Thursday.
Newcastle are seeking what would be only their second PL home clean sheet of the season, following a 0-0 draw with Liverpool. Paul Heckingbottom's side meanwhile kept a first PL away clean sheet of the season at Everton on Sunday.
Heckingbottom's last visit to SJP as an opposition boss was when we bade farewell to the Championship by beating his Barnsley side 3-0 in May 2017.
Ahead of this game, Newcastle have leaked 33 goals in 18 PL home games, their highest top-flight tally since letting in 37 during the 1977/78 relegation season, when they played 21 home games.

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Sheffield
Yeah can we change the thread title, this "Sheffield" thing has baffled me this season.
Side note, thanks to their promotion I can go to see Stockton Town play Sheffield for the first time next season.

Didn't realise it was a 'thing' . Pure laziness on my part

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Sheffield United
Sorry no insult meant, it's just not something I've ever seen until this season and it's been everywhere, online and even pundits say it. I think it is just laziness from the Premier League pundits (Sky's EFL commentators never would), but for those of us of a certain age it feels very jarring as Wednesday are a big club. To me it's no different to saying "we're playing Manchester".

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Sheffield United
I'll predict a 3-1 win.
Also, maybe I should start a thread for this. But our fearless, aspiring-leaders Saudi Arabia have officially proposed the World Cup be held every 2 years. Because money. And I'd predict they know with few countries willing to fork over the costs to host there'll be plenty of opportunities for places like SA.

I'd be surprised if Bruce brings in some of those fringe youngsters mentioned, especially with it being the first game back with fans. I just hope he doesn't go ultra defensive like in the reverse fixture

This, they both push forward. If it was Krafth and Dummett at wingback it’d be different.

Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Sheffield United
What channel are we on? Sky are showing Tottenham's buildup on every channel...
Re: Match day thread - NUFC v Sheffield United
This.. Kraft isn't really a natural CB either.. so the system can be attacking at times it's just annoying when ASM has to do it himself & he finds himself isolated but with Willock having license to push forward it does help as he adds that goal threat from midfield we've lacked for yearss since Nolan/Cabaye days.
