4 points from two games is probably what Southgate would have taken per tournament, but don’t think anyone has seen anything to suggest England will be getting to a final let alone winning it unless there are big improvements. They play well and with purpose in spells but for most of the time it’s just so lethargic to watch (as it is in most games for England).

Again though I think taking too much from group game performances doesn't help, the important thing is just to qualify. Don't forget that my lads didn't even win a group game when they won the tournament last time.

I'd probably take Bruce over Southgate, but practically the same issues with both. Two managers way out of their depth to the point they drag the talent they have down to their level.

We were a joke last night. No pressure or tempo. Massively frustrating

Is their a more biased commentator than Hartson (excluding Savage)?

Wales through as runners up as it stands.

They should play either Russia, Finland or Denmark next so will fancy their chances.

Am I the only one who is finding this a bit meh. Might be related to other factors but just all feels a bit 'on in the background' for me. Far too many teams making it out of the groups (more than 50% will qualify) and every group has at least one absolute shitto. Maybe it's linked to what's going on globally or maybe it's just me but compared with the buzz of the World Cup in 2018 this just feels like it's passing by without anyone really caring. Perhaps that will all change once we make knockout football and the results really 'matter'. Don't think it helps having the matches all over the place either, rather than one host country that absolutely goes to town with the celebrations.

I don't disagree at all that the multiple hosts is poor, and the 24 team structure even more so, but I've enjoyed the tournament so far. It had every potential to be really weird given everything that's happened over the last year but I think some of the games have been great (certainly no worse than usual anyway). Knockouts are looking really strong too, of the big sides I'd imagine there's only Portugal running the risk of not getting through.

I agree it's a bit of a joke having 3 teams qualifying from half the groups, but overall I've enjoyed it so far. It does lack that carnival type feel that you normally get with a single host but I guess that would have been lost to a large extent anyway even if it were a single host due to Covid restrictions.

It's a bit like the CL group stages, I watch some of the games but you know a lot of it doesn't really matter until the knockouts when there's more on the line.

I haven't been able to do my usual "suspend life and watch every game" cos of work/kids. I've enjoyed what I've seen, less negative football than expected. Hopefully that doesn't break out in knockouts
