Imagine how much success they might had the past half decade if they'd not sold De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku and others. So much roster churn and impatience for a while there.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 7:14 pmGreat business by Chelsea, sell him for £25m and buy him back for £97m

”Modern football sometimes makes me sad. Nowadays there can be more focus on big-name signings rather than promoting youth and that makes me sad. Why buy a striker for £50 million when there is one waiting in the youth team?”

Now it's "Why buy a striker for 50 million when you can spend 100 million?"
Re: Other Clubs Rumours/Transfers (Summer 2021)
When you consider that Man City and Chelsea have large amounts of players out on loan every season (Chelsea 32 Man City 27 last season) and some of the players they have let go you'd think the club/he would actually do what he said.

Or the amount of money they've spent on their academy and other facilities geared towards developing youth players. I can understand young players wanting access to the best facilities and competition, and choosing to go there, but it feels a bit like a wasted investment from the club if you're realistically not going to leverage that source of talent.

It should be clubs like us who spend the vast majority of our money on a good solid academy but we're miles behind Sunderland and Boro never mind the rest of the prem when it comes to that.

Absolutely, affordable young talent is all the more valuable to a club like ours that isn't going to spend like drunken sailors to fill holes in the senior squad. But it takes senior front office staff with vision and expertise to guide those investments (and subsequent coaching hires), and sadly we don't have that at the club.Tsi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:52 pmAgreeRemember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 4:57 pm

Liverpool seem to have struck the right balance. They’ve developed a few players who have / are coming through into the first time but sell a lot of their former academy / youth players for silly money.
