Team for Watford

Post by bodacious benny » Wed Sep 22, 2021 9:36 am

What are people's preferred line-ups for Watford? In the hope that Bruce abandons the 5 at the back that clearly isn't working now I'm going for:
<darlow>
<manq> <lascelles> <fernandez> <lewis>
<murph> <willock> <hayden> <saintmaximin>
<almiron>
<gayle>
I'm going controversial here and actually playing players in their preferred positions, which is crazy I know.

I wouldn't even be against playing Joelinton on the left and ASM in place of Almiron (with Almiron on the bench) as that would give Lewis a bit of cover.

Lascelles will always start, could be Clark or Fernandez next to him. Just for the love of God play Hayden in midfield.

Murphy and Manquillo I think is a good combination on the right. Manquillo has quite quickly shown he's our best option at RB / RWB, but Murphy has shown his quality in delivering balls into the box so give him a run in his preferred position.

On paper I don't mind the look of that team.

I like this. But he'll play the same formation with four or five players ratcheted out of position and wonder why it doesn't work, again. I'm sure he'll have seen some good stuff from the lads though, you know.

Ah, Longstaff in CM then (who I thought looked okay in the second half especially against Leeds).

Please not <hendrick>

Willock is an attacking mid not a centre mid <erm>

If we play wingers, Fraser in with a shout?

Yeah for me Willocks best position is where you have Almiron, the Kevin Nolan hole.

<perv>

The only problem with that is the lack of a decent partner for Hayden behind him. Longstaff is the only real option.

Couldn't we play Hamza Choudhury in CM?

This. That 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 is exactly the team I'll play. If we want more solidity in midfield then Longstaff-Hayden could be a good combo with Willock supporting Gayle.. Miggy, Ritchie & Fraser can come of the bench & make a impact if necessary. But Miggy does bring pace, work-rate & energy to the midfield so him being the advanced midfielder/no.10 could work out. No Joelinton please. Need Gayle to start.. more of a better natural finisher with better movement. Wouldn't mind Joelinton on the right/left side of the midfield but think Murphy deserves a start further forward too see what he can do.. him & Manquillo could be a very solid & effective right-hand side. <ok>

Yeah this formation needs to be bad another three times. Then he'll change it, get two decent results and stick to that formation for irrationally long.

I hope that he puts Hayden into midfield (to replace Willock) and Fede and Schar into CB. The other option is you play either Fede or Schar (for Lascelles) and Hendrick (for Willock) which I no likey.

I wish we’d sold Schar and kept Lejuene who’s infinitely better I think. Every time I’ve seen Schar lately he’s seemed like a complete liability, much like most of the team I guess.

With both them two out Hayden needs to be in his natural holding midfield position and we need to revert to a four at the back system. Almiron can come in the Willock role behind the striker.

Darlow
Manquillo Fede Schar Lewis
Hayden Longstaff
Murphy Almiron ASM
Gayle
