Good point - who actually was the last player we had that other clubs actively chased? Genuinely can’t remember <laugh>

A few have left for nominal fees etc. but who’s actually been pursued?
Wijnaldum and Sissoko probably.

Kind of forced / expected by relegation tho so wasn’t like players we had a battle on our hands to keep hold of?

Exactly. Even if we buy a top striker in the summer, he'll be a good third choice to have for the length of his contract

For all the complaining about us being a selling club, we've hardly ever actually shopped the few good players we've had, and when sold, they've almost always been for really high prices that we'd have scoffed at had we been on the other side trying to buy.

I feel like many of our best players have went for peanuts and release clauses. We did bargains for almost a decade, and those who turned out good went for nothing (or forced themselves out because of relegatiion) and replaced with a level or two below.

What the Premier League rules state
Rule U.23. in the Premier League Handbook states: “Subject to the provisions of Rule V.1, the deadline for receipt by the Board of all duly completed documents required by these Rules to effect the registration of a Player shall be 12 noon on the last Working Day before the date of the first League Match in which the Club making the application intends him to play, save that the international transfer certificate and evidence of eligibility to take up employment in the United Kingdom (in both cases if applicable) may be provided thereafter (but must be provided before the Player is eligible to play for a Club in a League Match)."

With Brighton and Crystal Palace playing on Friday night (8pm kick-off), some have interpreted the rule as the last working day before this week’s round of fixtures – which would mean the player would have to be registered by noon on Thursday.

But this is not the case, as the Premier League have clarified.

What the Premier League have said
A Premier League spokesperson told The Gazette: “Rule U.23. is specific only to the team itself wishing to register a player, it doesn’t take into account any other team’s fixtures or the match round in which they will next play.”

That means Newcastle are able to register new signings up until noon on Friday, January 14 in order for them to play against Watford on Saturday.

so there u go m8 friday annoucnement comin up lmao here we go lads lol <dotheameobi> <dotheameobi> <dotheameobi> <dotheameobi>

Who's next!!! I don't think there are any CB we could have ready for Watford, so Ekitike in and on the bench for the game would be the best we could hope for.

Also according to Sky sports we've been offered the opportunity to sign Van de beek

Where did you see the Van de Beek thing? I've only seen Luke Edwards say we've "considered the possibility" but it's not looking likely as he's in an agent dispute that makes things difficult.

2 players in and not even two weeks in. First transfer window ive enjoyed in a long time. Fully expect another 2 signings before the window shuts. A CB and another striker. Anyone think we're ok midfield wise? Would love an enforcer type midfielder though like a peak Tiote.

The rumours are that we want 2 CBs (1 destroyer, 1 ball player), an LB (though that's gone a bit quiet), another striker and a "marquee" CM. I think 2 CBs are most critical (so we can get rid of Clark and one of the others), but after that I think it's a question of what we can get without paying stupid money.

Would only take VDB on a loan now, just concerns me that 2 managers have only used him to warm the bench now. Makes me think there is more to it than we know.

Top 10 most expensive sales in club history (in Euros):
- Carroll (41m)
- Sissoko (35m)
- Perez (33.4m)
- Cabaye (25m)
- Mitro (24.7m)
- Townsend (15.6m)
- Debuchy (15m)
- Jenas (15m)
- Milner (15m)
- Merino (12m)

The only really good player I can think of that escaped with a cheap clause is Demba Ba at 8.5m, or at a push, Jose Enrique (8m). Otherwise even Janmaat, Cabella and Thauvin were 8-11m, the latter 2 hardly even played for us before sold on again.
