Summer Transfer Rumours/Wishlist 22/23

Post by Don Sholeone » Sat Oct 09, 2021 11:31 am

So now that there is real hope for us in the transfer market thought I'd start a thread as the rumours and links will surely come thick and fast.

I think it's realistic to expect between 3-5 signings this coming window, we need another striker as Wilson just cannot be relied upon to stay fit for a full season. We then need to build around Willock in midfield with a minimum of 2 more in there imo. Defensively we need a top quality leader to organise us and still need to sort out LB and potentially RB.

Personally I'd like to see us go for these players, ive included 1 marquee signing and others I think are realistic for the time being.

CB- Koulibaly - This would be our marquee signing, was rumoured a lot during the first months of the takeover saga as a player they would like to bring in. He's just hit 30 now and possibly attainable for around £60m

LB - Tagliafico Another we have been linked with before, he nearly went to West Ham in the summer for a rumoured fee of £10m. Good defensively and would be a big improvement on Ritchie

CM - Denis Zakaria Coming up to the last 6 months of his contract so potential for a lower fee, a highly rated midfielder who's been linked with some top clubs, mainly plays defensively but is well suited to a box to box role.

CM - Boubacar Kamara Linked heavily in the summer, another coming to the end of his contract so has a reduced fee, a highly rated young defensive midfielder who can also cover CB.

CF- Schick another we have been linked with in the past, increased his profile a lot since then though, a top striker who can also play out wide. Would take the pressure off Wilson and give us a different dynamic up top.

Finish with some formation porn.

Dubravka

Manquillo -- Koulibaly-- Lascelles -- Tagliafico

Kamara---Willock---Zakaria

Almiron--- Schick --- ASM

Jelle vosson....

I dint think we can jump to Koulibaly. They disparity in wages between the rest of thwbsquad would be huge. And that type of player doesn't want to build, thet want to win now.

Having said that, f*** knows who fits us. Zaha? James ward prowse types? Best players from teams out of the top six. Or young players with high ceilings?

Yeah I was thinking zaha types. At 30 Koulibaly will want a move to somewhere that can win trophies soon I think so not really realistic.

I don’t think Ramsey is unrealistic and has been linked before. As others have said someone like van de beek.

Everton were heavily linked with Koulibaly recently. Dont know how much was just media talk but could also indicate he would like to move to the PL.

Tarkowski would be an excellent signing.

Agree. Probably one of the best CB's in the PL not currently playing for a top 6 team (and I don't think he'd be out of place there as is) and a realistic signing at this stage.

Agreed. Lascelles has really dropped off in the last year or two (who hasn’t…) so this would be an excellent move.

I don't dislike Lascelles but he's never been fantastic. For me there have been numerous occasions in his tenure here where he's been 3rd or 4th choice in my eyes, but it was only really Rafa who was prepared to drop him for form/ability reasons. I'd imagine his days are numbered.

It's interesting really, for all that Chelsea and Man City were kind of European places/midtable sides when they were bought out, we are genuinely relegation strugglers, so the scale of the clear out might be enormous. We'll hang on to a couple as squad players, but realistically I can't see many other than Wilson (when fit), ASM (when fit), Dubravka and potentially Willock still being in starting lineups in two years time. Maybe Murphy if he can kick on?

Lascelles did have one excellent season in the PL under Rafa but I agree, it was the exception rather than the rule overall. He is sometimes very good, but a lot of the time over the past couple of years Fernandez has looked more solid.

Much as I like Murphy (always been an advocate of his even when he was loaned out) I can’t really see him being of a standard to be a regular if we do start signing some of the types of players we’re linked with. Though who knows, this could really inspire some players to really up their game.

Seen us linked with Icardi, Immobile and Coutinho so far <laugh>

Tempted to make a 'ridiculous transfer rumours' thread

Tbf Barcelona probably need to shift coutinho and not many can / will take on his wages so it’s not entirely impossible to imagine <laugh>

Lascelles has dropped off in recent years, a big part I think is due to injuries. But I have to say he's been a good servant to the club, the way he stepped up to lead by example when all the seniors gave up, he gave us his all in some of the darkest times, for me that won't be forgotten. It's a shame that this new era will see the end of some good loyal players that have been fantastic for us overall. The likes of Richie, Clark, Hayden and to an extent even Shelvey, They all played their part in getting us back in the PL and although it was a struggle at times and a s*** watch, have kept us in the PL.

Just last night I was thinking about which of our current players might still make the squad on merit in a couple of years and came up with the same result, those four with Murphy as an outside bet if he develops. But chances are we will also still be stuck with some that are on long contracts and we haven't managed to move on.

Also agree with Lascelles. I've never rated him highly and for most of the last 3 seasons would have him as 5th choice CB based on playing ability but acknowledging his leadership skills promote him to 3rd.

It would be nice to see a few players step up and make themselves indispensable though.

If true Tarkowski is a solid bit of business. Prem experienced, contract running down, improves our ageing back like. Home grown as well. Would also like to go in for Franck Kessie as well.

An experienced out and out left back and then maybe the marquee signing of a forward. We definitely need a back up to Wilson, but maybe a younger, world class potential to be his back up and ultimate replacement would be good?

Also I wonder what happens with the on loan striker in our u23s, Munoz?
