There were some good one-year wonders in the league during that period. It's rare now to see a random striker pop up and expectedly score 20+ nowadays.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 2:07 pmYeah I liked Santa Cruz at Blackburn.
Remember Morten Games Pedersen? He was class for a while there too.
A couple of seasons he was real class. A brilliant left foot, closest thing Norway has ever been to a Beckham.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 2:07 pmYeah I liked Santa Cruz at Blackburn.

I meant no disrespect to MGP - nor necessarily meant that he specifically was a one season wonder. In general it just felt like it was easier for a player to seemingly come out of nowhere to score a lot of goals for a season or two. It's rare for players to surprise us and produce on that scale now.Oval85 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:34 pmTwo seasons!Remember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 2:11 pm

I was just joking. Thought it was obviousRemember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:38 pmI meant no disrespect to MGP - nor necessarily meant that he specifically was a one season wonder. I knew you were kidding and was only half serious with my reply. 1 season wonder just sounds better than 2 season wonder.Oval85 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:43 pmI was just joking. Thought it was obviousRemember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:38 pm

Have there ever been many 20+ strikers out of the blue though? Kevin Phillips had that one ridiculous season, but it's usually only players at big sides who manage it. We still have the likes of Pukki two seasons ago who stood out in a poor side, or indeed Wilson at Bournemouth.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 3:38 pmI meant no disrespect to MGP - nor necessarily meant that he specifically was a one season wonder. Maybe not always 20+ goals, but I saw a fun list of PL one-season wonders on Squawka the other day - with a few examples including Marcus Stewart, Michael Ricketts, Michu, Andy Johnson and Benni McCarthy. Our Cisse was also named among them.Colly wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 5:48 pmHave there ever been many 20+ strikers out of the blue though? Oh my, he got so much stick for that one back home. He did it once and never again
