The Everton Question?

Post by Focuseater » Sat Oct 16, 2021 5:44 pm

So, does anyone reckon Newcastle United FC can de-rail the Everton FC juggernaut from it's iconic status as the World's biggest football club?

Considering how much Everton fans seemed to hate Newcastle without any apparent reason to do so, they must really hate the club now.

Well; we're no West Ham...

* only appropriate since West ham just scored.

** applicable now that Everton lost

I think its when we did the double on them last season and the 2 stoppage time goals season prior that made them furious

It's been from long before that. When Sunderland were in the Prem their fans seemed to bond over being the fans of the club overshadowed by their neighbours. They see us and Liverpool fans as being overly emotional and getting favourable treatment from the outside world despite them being more deserving. Essentially they're envious of ourselves and Liverpool getting attention and that envy comes out in a weird hatred for us.

I think that is the underlying issue - but it's so odd because frankly we can't be compared to Liverpool - just as Sunderland right now can't be compared to Everton. Or really for much of our history Everton has been more successful than us too (I think?).

They've won a few more cups than we have and their success is far more recent than ours <laugh>

Everton had an excellent team in the 80s, won an FA Cup and a title or two...one FA cup in the 90s too (I think). But in comparison to their city neighbours they're absolute nobodies.

Everton also like to boast the most seasons in the top flight division. 118 I think it currently stands at. And something like 68 continuous seasons. So they tend to look down on clubs that get relegated.

Basically whatever stat Everton fans want to look at they’re in the shadow or Liverpool and will never match them in any way, so you can see why they’ve got a chip on their shoulders.
