Match day thread - NUFC V Burnley ( must must win )
Burnley (h)
The Magpies host the Clarets at St. James' Park this afternoon in a non-televised 3pm start.
Remaining tickets are now on public sale for the visit of a side who arrived in eighteenth place and with just a single victory to their name in 13 PL games (beating Brentford 3-1 at Turf Moor).
For Eddie Howe it's an eleventh meeting with the side he managed a decade ago - having guided Bournemouth to just a pair of victories in the previous games.
This will be Burnley's second visit to Tyneside this season, following their penalty shootout success in a League Cup tie that had ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
The two sides also met in pre-season behind closed doors in Lancashire, Burnley winning that game 1-0.
NUFC: Ciaran Clark is suspended for this game following his red card against Norwich City, while Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie are both available after completing their one match bans.
Paul Dummett remains unavailable with what has been called a persistent calf strain.
Pre-match: We're delighted to have The Dog and Parrot bar on board with us again this season, opposite Times Square on Clayton Street West/Neville Street.
Former Magpie Malcolm Macdonald will be holding a pre-match talk-in from 1pm and returning at 6.30pm. Free entry to both.
BFC: James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood will both be available for selection after serving one match bans.
Phil Bardsley may return, but Ashley Barnes remains out due to injury. Dale Stephens is recovering from COVID.
The Clarets extended their unbeaten PL record to five games thanks to a 0-0 draw at Wolves on Wednesday night - although only one of those five games ended in three points for Sean Dyche's side.
Burnley are winless on the road so far this season, losing at Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City and drawing at Leicester City, Southampton and Wolves.
Key Terms: New UK
Referee: Paul Tierney - third outing of the season for the Lancastrian whistler, following on from the 2-2 home draw and Chelsea's 3-0 victory on Tyneside.

Im gonna say no win. Shock choice
Was listening to the football ramble. Andy brassell knows alot about footy andd seems optimistic on us staying up.
Then again he went to uni at Newcastle and has just moved back, so has a soft spot

History well in our side for this one , but we seem to be making history of our own this season., so kinda rules out all stats.
Hoping for a win then a performance but not looking to this one bit from a survival perspective. This will be tough today I reckon, both teams need a win, so probably 0-0
We simply must win this or we are written off by all.

As long as nobody does anything stupid, ala Clark, then I reckon we'll get our first win.
Hopefully Fernandez starts, I'd like to see this side:
But I reckon he'll start Lascelles over Fernandez or Schar and Willock over Hayden.

I hope we stick to the back line from the Norwich game, think it's our best line and also looked the safest line we have had for a few weeks. I am a little worried that Ritchie and Lascelles will walk straight back in though. Willock and Almiron coming off the bench in the second half to give us some energy would be better than either starting right now imo.

What is Howe thinking? I like that Miggy is starting and Lewis stays at LB. But why oh why would you just drop Fernandez like that after such a great performance? Schar - Fernandez should have been the starting two and Wilson should have kept the armband. Bad decision by Howe here.
Anyways gotta think positive.. if we don't do anything stupid (ala Clark) then we should bag the three points. Gotta be wary of Cornet who's Burnley main danger man.. I have a feeling he'll score.
Newcastle 2 - 1 Burnley (ASM, Wilson) (Cornet)

I blame the captain for this. What a shocking first 25. Suddenly when he is back we look like a bunch of headless chickens...

Lacelles needs dropping. Put Fernandez in and give the captains armband to Dubravka.
