Dan Ashworth confirmed as gardening director

Ashworth became the Brighton's technical director in 2019, and has worked with both the Football Association and West Bromwich Albion in the past.

In particular, his work with the FA drew plenty of praise, with England manager Gareth Southgate saying: “In terms of the work of a technical director, I don’t think he could have had a bigger impact with the plans he put in place at the FA and the way that the national teams have progressed in the time Dan has been in charge.”

sounds like a good option, Brighton seem very well run at the minute

Brighton are an excellent model to follow.

Their main issue is they they don't have anyone to put the ball in the net and it's not really something they've sought to address

He's probably what we need right now, a lot of people wanting/expecting these high profile names. The likes of Edwards and Emenalo have build huge reputations but none have built up an infrastructure from the ground up, this guy has made Brighton of all teams one of the most highly regarded in this country in terms of infrastructure. Thats what we need right now, we are the richest in the world but like the club has been saying there is no infrastructure at all whoever comes in is building from scratch.

Touched on the subject of Brighton hiring a ex Player to help the u23's whilst doing his coaching badges in a different thread, didn't realise at the time it was him who implemented it

I read somewhere that this was the first of a few behind the scenes roles we are looking at filling. Apparently still looking at a "CEO" and an academy director. If so it could mean he could potentially be working alongside someone like Michael Edwards for example.

2. Krafth (would be number 1, but plays less than Clark)
3. Schar
4. Lascelles
5. Fernandez

Schar isn't fantastic defensively but he's the only CB we have that looks confident moving the ball. Everyone else just shits themselves when asked to do anything more than lumping it up field.

Ive always found Fernandez to be one of the worst on the ball, although I think it's more a case of him trying to do too much/ try things beyond his ability, I think the pairing of him and schar is our best 2 as they compliment each other. Lascelles and Clark have just regressed on all fronts.

He's just resigned from Brighton, reports are he will serve 2 weeks notice on gardening leave before joining up with us.

In other news Overmars has also resigned from Ajax, although that's down to him being a mucky bugger with the ladies, so doubt he will be getting another role for a little while.

Ashworth sounds like a very good and sensible appointment. Brighton are an excellent model in how to run and develop a football club from the bottom up so he'll definitely bring a lot to the role.

A lot of Brighton fans seem to be in melt down over him leaving them. He’s held in high esteem and apparently did wonders on and off the field at Brighton so it’s looking like a great appointment! ( if he does come)

I would feel bad but some of the reports are that the gardening leave could be 2-3 months. Admittedly I'm not up on all the rules of that, but surely Brighton have the power to release him from the contract whenever they like, so it feels a bit spiteful that he isn't being allowed to join up with us for a few months. If they are being spiteful then what does that really achieve when we are outside a transfer window and now just on the final stretch of the season. It's not like we are desperate for him right now so the likely hood of us paying them off to release him is very slim.
