Re: Dan Ashworth linked as director of football
In the short-term, at least next season if we stay up then they'd see us as direct competition. They'll be aiming for a top half finish next season, as will we, so anything they can do to slow/disrupt us is in their best interests.

Especially if he has scouting material at the ready that he can bring to us. We may be between transfer windows right now, but I'm sure there's a lot of research and prep they'll have prepared and the sooner he joins us and brings those ideas or info, the more likely any of our future plans come at their expense.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:13 amIn the short-term, at least next season if we stay up then they'd see us as direct competition. Reports that we have come to an agreement with Brighton and he could be officially appointed as soon as next week.

Hopefully he gets on smoothly with everyone already onboard. But with how long this has been in the works, have to believe it'll be a good transition.
Re: Dan Ashworth confirmed as director of football
I wonder if it'll be the same role or an upgrade to what Phil Robinson does at cityDon Sholeone wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 4:46 pm

Re: Dan Ashworth confirmed as director of football
I see your point but they make vast amounts of money selling/loaning young talent so swings and roundabouts it was around 70m, 60m more than their rivals.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 5:36 pmNot exactly famed for bringing through proven young talent other than FodenDon Sholeone wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 4:46 pm

We should get whoever is in charge of Liverpool player sales as they regularly rinse clubs for average playersTsi wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 5:42 pmI see your point but they make vast amounts of money selling/loaning young talent so swings and roundabouts it was around 70m, 60m more than their rivals.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 5:36 pm

To be fair he is only 27 and has been at Man City for only 5 years.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 5:36 pmNot exactly famed for bringing through proven young talent other than FodenDon Sholeone wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 4:46 pm

A lot of good players have moved on and played well elsewhere. I bet he'd have liked City to have used his prospects more over the years - but you can never have too many international attacking midfielders apparently.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 5:36 pmNot exactly famed for bringing through proven young talent other than FodenDon Sholeone wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 4:46 pm

Re: Dan Ashworth confirmed as sporting director
News on official confirmation of the appointment of Dan Ashworth at Newcastle United goes on.
However, it appears as if the Premier League have inadvertently jumped the gun on their own website ahead of any Magpies statement.
In a statement last week, the Magpies stated that the deal to get Ashworth on board as the club’s first ever sporting director was “subject to Premier League approval”.
It was also stated “Newcastle United will issue further information following the relevant approval process”.
But, the official Premier League website has already listed the change in its Newcastle United club directory, with Ashworth down officially as United’s ‘sporting director’.
Re: Dan Ashworth confirmed as sporting director
His first interview since joining.
Very well spoken and explains his role well. Amazing how much has changed at the club in under a year.

I read a journo saying we were playing at football manager since the takeover but in reality we're just acting like a normal club for the first time in 14 years
