Match Thread: Newcastle v Everton
Seems like an eternity since we played Leeds! There seems to be a lot of positivity about at the moment which can only mean one thing...defeat
This is a great chance to get 3 points on the board and drag Everton right into the relegation mix. Our squad is looking strong, you'd expect Bruno to start, as well as Targett and Burn. Most of the new signings have had a good week or so training with the rest of the squad which is the benefit of the winter break, Bruno has had since Thursday I think and a training session at SJP the other day and seems in good spirits.
Crowd will be rocking, hopefully we can get off to a good start and take the game to them.

Currently bricking it and very eager to watch the match tonight at the same time so likely I'll need to change my pants a few times until kick off.
Get the win tonight and we've dragged another team into the mire which will be really useful.

I haven't felt this optimistic ahead of a game since Watford at home

Dubravka
Trippier - Lascelles - Burn - Targett
Shelvey - Bruno - Joelinton
Fraser - Wood - ASM

Seems the most likely lineup tonight? Unless there's injuries or suspensions I've missed. Lascelles has continued to be poor unfortunately, and Schar has improved as of late. However, I don't see Howe dropping the captain.

So annoyed I'm briefing my VP at the time of kick-off. I'll have to keep things brief so I can focus on the match.

I think this will be the team. Hope he starts Bruno. If the game isn't going to plan I hope we get Willock on for a good 30 minutes - he seems better with a big man to feed off.Cabella's Invincible Hair wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 1:53 pmDubravka

I'll go on the limb and say that Lascelles will be out instead of Schar. Schar offers better ball skills than any of our other CBs, and I can only hope that Burn is better defending in our box than Lascelles is. They strike me as a more complementary pairing. I also don't think Howe necessarily has the same loyalty to Lascelles, having not been the one to name him captain and the club so clearly trying to upgrade the position ever since he joined as manager.Cabella's Invincible Hair wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 1:53 pmDubravka

He's looked better lately since Howe seemed to give him more license to get forward. For too much of the season he seemed to be positioned to try and do a bit of everything in the midfield - which meant he didn't do any of it particularly well.Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 2:22 pmI think this will be the team. Brentford home, “must win” - drew
Norwich home, “must win” - drew
Watford home, “must win’ - drew
…you wouldn’t bet against it

Going the pub to watch it with an Everton mate. f*** it, 3-0 Newcastle.
As for my lineup above, that's what I think he'll play, I'd also keep schar in with Burn on the left side. Bruce didn't name Lascelles captain either but was still loyal to him. Howe seems to pick his defenders using an anyone but Fernández metric.

So nervous for this. Huge game and will be a cracking atmosphere but it could go either way. Everton have the new manager bounce and a loss sees them dragged into the battle to avoid the drop. Fascinated to see the line up and if Howe will start Guimaraes who seems raring to go from his interviews.
I hope if we score first and score early we still push forward as we did against Leeds when we got the goal in the second half. The longer the game goes on with us leading Everton have no choice to push forward themselves and hopefully that leave spaces for us to get in behind, spaces that hopefully Bruno can use to thread the ball through.
Prediction: 2-0 Newcastle. (ASM and Shelvey)

Re: Match Thread: Newcastle v Everton
For me this is biggest game of the season ( so far ). The signings are done , the speculation over, time we walk the walk.
Honestly see this as a good performance , but ending 1-1.
Love us to go out and smash someone. but don’t see it tonight. I’m worried about their Brazilian
More chance methinks of me smashing some wine !!!!
