Matchday thread - Southampton v Toon
Stolen from NUFC.com
Newcastle trek to St. Mary's this afternoon for their penultimate Premier League game before the fixture break for the World Cup Finals.
It's a 2pm kick-off and all 3,200 away tickets are now sold out.
2-1 victors there last March, United have lost just one of their last five visits but have never won successive away games against Southampton.
The Saints have beaten Newcastle just once in the last ten home and away meetings of the two clubs.
NUFC: Joelinton serves a one match ban following his fifth booking of the season.
If he plays, Jonjo Shelvey will reach 200 appearances in league and cup for the club - triggering an automatic contract extension.
Assuming they retain their places in the starting line-up, Fabian Schar will make his 100th start and Callum Wilson his 50th start (both in all competitions).
After the opening six away games of the season, United's tally of nine points from two wins and three draws already matches their total from the entire 19 away games of the 2015/16 campaign.
SFC: Kyle Walker-Peters and Valentino Livramento are sidelined, with Stuart Armstrong and Armel Bella-Kotchap rated doubtful.
Fit-again Romeo Lavia played 45 minutes for the U21s last weekend and could be included in Sunday's squad. Theo Walcott meanwhile scored a hat-trick in the same match - he's played just 17 minutes in the Premier League this season.
Ralph Hassenhuttl's side have six points from a possible 18 at home so far; beating Chelsea 2-1 and drawing with Leeds (2-2), West Ham and Arsenal (both 1-1). Defeats came to Manchester United (0-1) and Everton (1-2).
Since our 2-1 success there last April, Southampton have managed just one clean sheet in 11 PL home matches.
Coral rate this game as follows:
NUFC win 10/11
Any draw 5/2
SFC win 3/1
NUFC win to nil 12/5
NUFC win from behind 10/1
Miggy Almiron to outscore SFC 6/1
Referee: Stuart Attwell - the Warwickshire whistler takes control of his first Toon game since our 0-5 reverse at Manchester City in April.
However he's twice overseen the VAR system recently for our games - at home to Bournemouth and at Spurs.

Re: Matchday thread - Southampton v Toon
Feel like it's going to be a 1-1 draw.. and won't be one of our better performances but we'll get a point. Big Joe misses out with a yellow.. who will deputise him? Murphy or is ASM fit enough to start?

I’m going with my prediction from last week.
6-0 win.
6-0 win.

Seeing that Souness can't pronounce Saudi he seems to be backing some Sodi owners for a biblically epic battle once Gomorrah sorts it's s*** out.
Re: Matchday thread - Southampton v Toon
Maybe that'll happen once he gets round to pronouncing Bruno's name.overseasTOON wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 1:37 pmSeeing that Souness can't pronounce Saudi he seems to be backing some Sodi owners for a biblically epic battle once Gomorrah sorts it's s*** out.

I'm convinced Souness has been sent to this time from the future as a laugh just to see how far a man that f***ing thick can get in society in the 12st century

Sloppy sloppy need to get into our groove
Re: Matchday thread - Southampton v Toon
This very much used to be our bogey game, and we're due a bad result after the run we've had. That's pessimist me, we've had a couple of half chances, and I expect ASM will get half an hour or so.

Getting better.
Re: Matchday thread - Southampton v Toon
Is Murphy on the pitch? Feel like I haven't seen him yet, Willock's always in the wide left position and Murphy nowhere to be seen.
