I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

Re: NUFC Kits Thread
I've definitely never felt an expectation or obligation to buy any sports team's new kit each year - not that I could have afforded to anyway. Though I get the impression that was always more of a football thing that doesn't carry over to here. Obviously teams anymore release a raft of jerseys irrespective of sports - although in a lot of sports here they actually have to keep them for years at a time so as not to cost distributors and retailers (players changing their numbers even have to pay out), but it's all felt more like an attempt to keep releasing new ones so there's at least one somebody will like.

As for the new kit - it doesn't live up to that awesome promo video, but it's perfectly fine and actually like the return to exclusively black and white for a recent change. Didn't we have one version with a white back and one with back stripes this past season? I presume whichever competition required more legible numbers?

I remember when they opened a Krispy Creme in Dublin a few years back brought traffic to a standstill.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 5:05 pmI remember the days of shirts lasting a few seasons between new ones coming out, simpler times. I'll probably wait till the sales again like I did with this seasons, plus it's past the transfer window so you can lose the risk of a player leavingColly wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 9:15 am
It's the people who have to have it immediately as well, the queues at the ground this morning looked daft. I've got 25 year old shirts still in regular circulation, the idea of having to buy the new one the second it comes out (at £100 once you add the obligatory name and number given the horrible white back) astounds me. At £55 for a kids top too, I know people can spend their money how they want but you could get a full "retro" kit with socks and shorts for half that.
That said they opened a new Primark near me last month, less than 5 miles from another Primark, and there were queues outside. Maybe I'm just not cool anymore..
As for store openings people love a good store opening, I'll be helping to opening a sister store to my work next month, every time an opening happens it's a mad rush, shoppers are an odd bunch, they will shop at the same chain 2-3 times a day if the opportunity arises.
I agree too shirts lasting a few years, especially for international teams.
Ireland had 7 different kits in the last 4 years

I'll Hazard a guess

It's pure marketing, the PL don't require plain backs, whereas the CL (which we aren't in) does. The players wore plain white backed shirts in Europe last year but stripes in the PL.Remember Colo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 6:09 pmAs for the new kit - it doesn't live up to that awesome promo video, but it's perfectly fine and actually like the return to exclusively black and white for a recent change. I would have too had they not f***ed my order for 2 months then cancelled it...bodacious benny wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 5:17 pmYeah I got last seasons in the club shop for £21 a couple of months ago, sorted.

I didn't mean to suggest we couldn't have it this year, just wanted someone to remind me where that actually is a rule. I can imagine a potential scenario where at the time these were designed it was decided there'd only be one version for 24-25, so should they decide whether that design should be inclusive of CL (and also maybe encourage printing). Not that I've ever been bothered buying the blank back ones without a name/number anyway.Colly wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 8:09 pmIt's pure marketing, the PL don't require plain backs, whereas the CL (which we aren't in) does. Honestly even putting aside anything to do with the Saudi's, this new push among "fans" to accept any shitty price increases clubs foist onto supporters is my least favourite thing about modern football. Season ticket price increases during a cost of living crisis? Helps PSR. £55 kids football tops? Helps PSR. I know these aren't essentials, but football clubs aren't just businesses, and I'm pleased the likes of the FSA exist to continue that message. Putting up prices is a choice, and genuinely the players should at this point be feeling some level of shame that their wage increase of several thousand pounds more per week is being covered by gouging huge proportions of working class fans incomes. A drop in the ocean for them is a decision between packing it in or not for supporters. It's pure greed, and it's only getting worse.
I just hope this regulator has some teeth.

I can understand some level of price inflation over time, even if these cost next to nothing to produce and distribute, the £30 benchmark stuck in my head is definitely out of date now. £80 is a bit much to swallow though. The away kit might test my resolve if there's a price drop by Christmas...Colly wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 11:15 amHonestly even putting aside anything to do with the Saudi's, this new push among "fans" to accept any shitty price increases clubs foist onto supporters is my least favourite thing about modern football. I agree that the kids and baby pricing is ridiculous though - you'd think you want to sell that for a low price to enable parents to keep kids draped in your colours as they grow, to help foster that connection which over time will return tenfold.
We've just had our first kid and were in town on launch day, had a quick look at the prices online and it's £40 for a baby kit that will last all of 10 minutes... https://shop.newcastleunited.com/produc ... e-baby-kit - But it does have AEROREADY technology, so who am I to complain...

Re: NUFC Kits Thread
The justification is really f***ing weird, it's like there is an embarrassment that the club is putting prices up,yet this is happening across the league. I think a part of it is everyone always thinks their club is some special case that won't put the prices up or won't screw it's fans over. We are no different to the other 19 clubs in the league.Colly wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 11:15 amHonestly even putting aside anything to do with the Saudi's, this new push among "fans" to accept any shitty price increases clubs foist onto supporters is my least favourite thing about modern football. As someone who supported the takeover my main annoyance is how some of the fans have taken it to the next level and have taken the stance that the ownership cannot do anything wrong, once you start doing that it gives the owners freedom to do whatever they like, you could be owned by Jesus, you still have to keep the ownership honest and be critical of the missteps they take along the way.
Re: NUFC Kits Thread

I'm not just speaking on our fans though, sadly it's a league wide issue. The argument with us has recently been "don't pay it then, someone else will", which is exactly how you end up with a Man Utd style stadium of plastics who'll soon disappear when the money goes. Football is a community game and should stay that way, loyal support should be valued not exploited. And yes I do realise that makes me an idealist.
It doesn't have to be this way though.

“Howay the stripes” say Adidas (just not on the back).
Kit is perhaps a tad underwhelming given the hype. Agree with Colly, feel the black and white stripes need a third colour to accent the kit. Think I’m more hyped for the hoodies/tracksuits - the END collaboration looks like a must-have to be fair.
And yes, pricing is obscene. Kits aren’t made the way they used to be. FFP justification is nonsense but they know people will pay it.

Re: NUFC Kits Thread
When's the away kit getting released?
Re: NUFC Kits Thread
Next month is the rumour, third in August.
Re: NUFC Kits Thread
Hi all,
I'm guessing this might not be allowed on here but I'll give it a go anyway.
I've had a signed Newcastle shirt sitting in my drawers for over 30 years, signed by Keegan etc from the 91/92 title winning season. I'll be putting it up on eBay shortly but just wanted to gauge opinion on whether anyone would be interested otherwise I might just hang on to it for another 30!
Cheers, Mr E
