Yep, it is absolutely undeniable that betting by players will take place through the game some way or another. Would be insanely naive for anyone to suggest that only those caught so far are the ones doing it. Law of averages and the immersion of betting in every aspect of football alone will say otherwise.
Match fixing will be much rarer but may well still happen, but betting will be rife.

The rumours are there's dozens in Italy in the same little "ring" as Tonali.

A cynical part of me says Tonali and Zaniolo have been deliberately targeted as the first to be investigated due to moving to the PL. I have no obvious proof of this just a gut feeling, also the Italians are allegedly insisting that his rehabilitation takes place in Italy which to me is a very bizarre condition given the circumstances. Surely the punishments should be decided by independent footballing authorities too. Seems like a bit of a s*** show too with the club not being fed any official information and talk that it's not even been ratified by FIFA/UEFA yet.

Apparently it's now been ratified by FIFA and he can't play tomorrow.

That condition makes no sense. Why would you send a gambling addicted person back to the place that they were suffering from their addiction? It's like sending an American player that has been mixed up in some sort of gang gun violence at home, and who moved away to a pretty gun-free country to escape it all, back to the US.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 1:50 pmA cynical part of me says Tonali and Zaniolo have been deliberately targeted as the first to be investigated due to moving to the PL. Given that he hardly speaks any English it’d be hard for him to undertake rehab here.

Still find it absolutely backwards that the Italians get to be judge jury and executioner in all of this. I think it needed to be delt with independently. End of the day why should the Italian FA decide how long he's banned for in the PL and CL? There are huge conflicts of interest imo, you could argue the sentence would have been more lenient had he still been playing in Italy. It does feel like the whole process is on dodgy ground. Wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the end of it to be honest.

One thing about that though, if they were tailoring the punishment then you'd think they'd have the ban to finish at the end of the club season. As it is, Tonali will miss the entirety of the euros if he wouldve been selected for Italy, and assuming they qualify.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 2:13 pmStill find it absolutely backwards that the Italians get to be judge jury and executioner in all of this. If you break the laws and policies in a country and league, it's entirely reasonable for that jurisdiction to do the investigation and execute the punishment.

Yeah I agree with this. And it seems he's admitted it, and sentencing isn't a jury decisionRemember Colo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 7:18 pmIf you break the laws and policies in a country and league, it's entirely reasonable for that jurisdiction to do the investigation and execute the punishment.

FA now looking into whether Tonali bet on English games since he moved here.
If he did he might be in more trouble.( Though any ban would run alongside his current one)
Ashworth also revealed club are investigating whether or not AC Milan were aware of potential issues prior to his move if so they might have to pay compensation

I’d say there’s a high chance that Milan knew something, whether there’s anything to prove that is something entirely different. Tonali definitely wouldn’t grass them up.

Apparently been charged with misconduct from the English FA now? No comment from the club at this time.
