Matchday thread - AC Milan v Toon
It's been a long wait but it's finally here, howay the lads!
Don't forget it's an early kick-off.
AC Milan (a)
Newcastle begin their Champions League Group stage campaign in Milan on Tuesday evening, when they face AC Milan in the San Siro Stadium.
It's a 5.45pm kick-off BST (Italian time 6.45pm).
United's 4,000 allocation is sold out. A small number of fans were selected and required to collect their ticket in Milan on matchday upon production of correct ID.
Team: Joelinton will miss out with a knee injury while this game comes too early for Joe Willock. Sandro Tonali has now returned to training.
ACM: Ahead of our visit, AC Milan were nominally the away team when they faced their city rivals Inter at the San Siro in Serie A on Saturday.
Following victories over Bologna, Torino and Roma, Coach Stefano Pioli was hoping to see his side extend their 100% start to four games, but instead was left to reflect on a 1-5 defeat.
Referee: José María Sánchez (Spain)
VAR: Alejandro Hernández
UK TV: Live on TNT Sports
UK Radio: Live on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport
Stats:
This will be the club's 135th competitive game in European competition (including Intertoto Cup ties but excluding the Anglo-Italian competition). The 134th was a 1-1 home draw with Benfica in the Europa League back in April 2013.
This will be the third time that the Magpies have played competitively at the San Siro, both previous visits coming against city rivals Inter Milan:
1970/71 drew 1-1 Davies (Fairs Cup)
2002/03 drew 2-2 Shearer 2 (Champions League)
(Newcastle also faced Inter in their previous guise as Ambrosiana Milan at the San Siro in 1929, the visitors winning a stormy friendly 1-0 with 30,000 watching).
A first-ever competitive meeting with AC Milan sees Newcastle play their 25th Champions League game.

Re: Matchday thread - AC Milan v Toon
I think the midfield could be Bruno, Longstaff and Tonali.
We absolutely need Longstaff in there, absolutely no doubt about that. I thought Andersen did quite well v Brentford and grew into the game. I'd expect him to play v Sheffield Utd at the weekend but don't think Howe will start him in this one.
2-2.

Yeah I didn't realise until yesterday that it was early, I haven't paid much attention to the CL for a few years now and thought all games kicked off at 8pm
God bless those TV companies.

Never mind forgetting about the early kick- off I've just realised I didn't take my blood pressure tablets this morning and that might not have ended well for me later!

This is disgusting but not a surprise in the slightest.Chappy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 11:15 amhttps://www.skysports.com/football/news ... t-san-siro
Can't say I'm surprised...
This is what always tempers my enthusiasm to go abroad on football jolly’s because the hail fella well met joviality is never reciprocated.
Always feel like you are looking over your shoulder in places like Milan.
Italy is notorious for knife crime amongst rival fans
Hope the guy is ok, terrible situation just for following your team.

English fans rightfully have a bad reputation, but at least they generally stop short of stabbing rival fans.
Obviously we don't know the context but if he was with his son it was unlikely he was looking for trouble and just wrong place wrong time.
