Many great performances tonight
Lascelles, Schar , Tonali, Gordon , Bruno , Trips , Miggy
Is this our best result ever in Europe. ?
Better than the narrow win over Barca or Juve I would say ?
Re: Matchday thread - Toon v PSG
I'm shattered. Just back home and rewatching the TNT Sport coverage, especially since I still have absolutely no idea what happened for goal number two. It's getting ridiculous how little fans on the ground hear when VAR checks are going on.
Outstanding game, brilliant atmosphere, and surely Southgate can't keep ignoring Longstaff when the only players doing what he can do are either on the Man City bench or playing against part timers in Saudi? Gordon was quieter tonight but has done enough this season to be in the squad too.
Final note just to say once again quite what Eddie Howe has done with this team is ridiculous. Yes, there's Trippier, Bruno and Isak (who was quiet tonight, Wilson would have been better with his hold up play), but we started with two Geordies, ended with three (plus Murphy), and 3 of the goals came from members of Steve Bruce's side. Special praise for Lascelles who inexplicably looks better now than he ever has, so strong and had the pace to catch Dembele (I think?) late on when Burn lost him. Brilliant from the captain.

I’d say in my time watching us play it’s on a par with the win against Juventus when Andy Griffin scored, but the win v Barcelona is still number 1.
This was absolutely a game for the ages tho and it will be remembered and talked about for a long long time!

Woke up this morning and quickly grabbed my phone to double check I hadn't had a very vivid dream about beating PSG 4-1.
Still smiling and will be for a good few days.

Totally astonishing. Watching Longstaff smash in that third turned me back into an 8 year old kid again, felt like every kid ever born on Tyneside scored that one .

I don’t live in the north east but even people at my work who support the likes of wolves and villa have been like “f***ing hell that was incredible” and seeing the scenes at the start gave them goosebumps.
If people didn’t know who and what Newcastle united were before tonight they bloody do now!

They say Port is one of the worst hangovers. And I agree!
At 3 nil up I stuck £20 on psg to win or draw at 10/1. Best twenty quid I ever lost.

I recall being confused that Lascelles was still club captain this season after barely featuring last season.
I was surprised to see him captain this match.
I think I understand now.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v PSG
I've no issue with the "club captain" concept, that first Championship season Nicky Butt was captain despite playing relatively few games. Experience and character are more important than we give credit for.

Yep, and as we've heard there is the 'leadership' group amongst the players too which Lascelles is obviously part of. Having the armband is just one component and to be successful you need lots of players on the pitch (and off it) who can lead by example. We have Trippier, Lascelles, Longstaff, Burn, Wilson and others who are all very vocal and driven leaders.

It's a very common thing tbh think it does get overplayed a bit.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:51 amYep, and as we've heard there is the 'leadership' group amongst the players too which Lascelles is obviously part of. Back in 08/09 season would have had
Butt,Nolan, Barton,Smith, Shola as a leadership group.
Pardew kind of dispatched that when he came in with others taking over
Colo, Jonas for example

I don't think the impact is overplayed if you have the right mix of people. We've all been in work places where there are good and bad leadership teams, having a good team of people in that position definitely makes a big difference to my motivation and desire to do well at work.lassassinblanc wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 11:18 amIt's a very common thing tbh think it does get overplayed a bit.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:51 amYep, and as we've heard there is the 'leadership' group amongst the players too which Lascelles is obviously part of.
