That's because only 18,000 left the game early instead of the usual 20,000.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

Once the first went in my mate from Singapore was straight on the phone and spent the entire match chatting.

I was 15 seconds in head of coverage so was fun trying to mask excitement and then debate.

Driving earlier I saw three magpies within the space of about 15 seconds - I took that as a sign of one for each goal we're gonna score.... cuz I have absolutely nothing else to go off and I'm nervous <laugh>

Anyone got the Sunderland local radio for the goals?

Just watched as was out earlier, as easy a derby victory that you could ever have. How bad is the championship if Sunderland are in playoff contention, they offered absolutely nothing at all (as you might expect given how cheap their squad evidently cost). Did we get out of second gear?

I don't think you can make that kind of judgement from one cup game, especially when midtable Boro are threatening 2nd in the PL Villa.

Sunderland were rubbish though, big difference between a PL side and a young team just promoted from League One, and we had the bonus of having both better players all round plus the mentality needed for a derby with our combative midfield and a couple of Geordies.

Perhaps, though the struggles of the three promoted sides who will all probably end up going straight back down does offer a better demonstration.

Overriding sentiment is relief. Relieved that it’s over, that we didn’t lose, and that we finally beat them. I had completely forgotten what that derby day dread felt like until about 15 mins before kick off.

I don’t know what everyone else thought but today felt quite surreal. Contrasting fortunes of the clubs in recent years made it feel a bit like a new era of the derby. The stark contrast in quality was clear to see and the game never really felt in doubt. I was expecting more from Sunderland but it’s a young squad and are still rebuilding.

It’s weird how much time has passed since the last and how much things have changed. Almost a bit depressing… not really sure! How was 2011 the last time??

Hopefully this will serve as a much needed confidence boost for the players and takes the pressure off EH with the tough fixtures still to come this month. Fingers crossed we can get injured players back after the warm weather training.

I might be in a minority, but I wasn’t particularly worried going into the game, and pretty much as soon as it kicked off the gulf between the sides was clear and I didn’t think we’d lose at any stage. If Longstaff could finish we’d have been out of sight by half time.

Not kidding myself that it means too much as there’s still a very good chance we lose our next two games, but I’m optimistic that when we get Man C and Villa out the way (and maybe Barnes / Willock back) then we’ll have a good spell.

Carried on drinking for the rest of the day as was in a celebratory mood and suffered like hell on Sunday.

I'd promised Mrs OT that I'd get the Xmas decorations up into the attic and it was a bit of a struggle. At one point I was half in/half out the attic and felt like I needed to puke so seriously considered chundering in a nearby cardboard box. I didn't as the nausea passed so had a gander in the box and discovered it was full of photos of miniOT when she was a toddler.

I'd have been murdered

In all the boxes in all the attics in all the towns in all the world, you just would've had to puke into that one. Well avoided.

Glad you're not dead.

The internet went down in SoL so the bar staff couldn't take payment, but didn't want the hassle of turning mags away (being held for an hour before coaches)
