Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh
We've beaten them once already this season, so let's do it again! Got my digital ticket somewhere and looking forward to the weekend.
The Magpies return to Premier League action on Saturday, when the defending champions visit SJP.
It's a 5.30pm kick-off, live on TNT Sports.
Following the home defeat by Nottingham Forest last time out, Newcastle are looking to avoid a second successive PL defeat at Gallowgate for the first time under the stewardship of Eddie Howe.
The last time United lost twice in a row on home soil was October 2021 (2-3 by Spurs under Steve Bruce then 0-3 by Chelsea under Graeme Jones).
Although Newcastle have beaten City on Tyneside already this season in the Carabao Cup, they are winless in the PL in the last nine home and away meetings since a 2-1 home win in January 2019.
Before that success - achieved through Salomon Rondon's strike and Matt Ritchie's spot kick - the Magpies had made 22 unsuccessful attempts at defeating the Citizens in the top flight.
Saturday will be the 48th PL meeting between the two sides, with Newcastle winning eight, drawing nine and losing the other 30 to date.
A press release from a new fan group BNWA (Black and White Army) confirms that Saturday will see them hold their inaugural pre-match flag march.
Starting point is the Tower Cafe in Leazes Park at 3.15pm, setting off at 3.30pm and heading via Leazes Terrace to the back of the Gallowgate End.
Further details online here, on twitter BNWARMY_
Team: Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson, Nick Pope and Matt Targett remain out while Sandro Tonali is ineligible.
PL suspension thresholds have altered to a two-match ban for any player who collects ten bookings in the first 32 PL games.
Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes both currently have seven yellows after 20 PL games.
Tonali prices this game as follows:
NUFC win 9/2
The draw 16/5
MCFC win 4/7
Anthony Gordon first scorer 9/1
NUFC win, Isak scores, Bruno booked 18/1
MCFC: John Stones remains unavailable and Erling Haaland won't return from injury at Gallowgate.
This will be the third meeting of these two sides this season, with both having won one to date. City recorded a 1-0 PL success at the Etihad in August, Newcastle triumphing by the same scoreline the following month at SJP in the Carabao Cup.
Ahead of their visit to Tyneside, Pep Guardiola's side defeated Huddersfield Town 5-0 in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday. Kevin De Bruyne made his return after a five month absence due to injury.
City will wear their usual home kit on Saturday.

Referee: Chris Kavanagh - the Lancashire whistler has already taken charge of four matches featuring Newcastle this season, a quarter of his full total.
Beginning with the 1-0 home win over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, Kavanagh then oversaw PL away losses at Bournemouth and Spurs before a return to SJP for the defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Got a bad feeling about this one, can only see us scoring three today.
3-1 to the lads.
3-1 to the lads.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

Hoping the cup match hit a little bit of a reset with the lads, add to that a week of rest, hopefully we go into the game and can be quite competitive.

Heart says a Newcastle win but my accumulator says Man City.
Happy to lose the 10p bet unless everything else is going my way and I'm on track to £13.5k...

Joelinton out is a big blow though. These are the type of games he thrives in.

0 offensive gamechangers on our bench still. I'm sure this will go well.

It's like on the old FIFA games when a cut inside and finesse shot was a guaranteed goal
