Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh
Excellent exciting thrilling half of football. City's backline can't handle Isak, Miggy's n' Gordon's pace and energy. Brilliant. Game of styles. City are better technically and in possession but our counter attacking press has been very good and City's backline can't handle that. There's definitely 1 or 2 more goals in this. Shame we don't have any real game changers on the bench, Isak could have had a hat-trick if he converted all his chances. We need to try hit them for another goal or 2 quick n' fast before the 70th minute as our players will get tired and CIty will come onto us and have world class players on the bench they can call on to punish us. This end 2-3 to them or 4-2 to us. Crazy but a amazing watch for the neutral.

just got in and my old faithful vipbox isnt working. anyone got a stream link?
Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Citeh
Probably a bit late, but try another browser (just make sure you've got your ad blocking ready there too). For me, vipbox doesn't like firefox any more, but works fine on edge...

Dubravka, Isak, Trippier and Almiron all looking well up for this. Good to see shades of the old tripps back.

Howe just doesn't have that extra something to survive at the level we need, last season was the peak I'm afraid, I don't see what difference a fully fit squad would have done today for us or what 2-3 more signings would have done for us. Tactically he's been found out and I don't think he knows what to do to rectify it. That second half was a peak Rafa approach of just trying to survive and scrape out something with 11 men behind the ball.
Add 3 new signings and bring back all out I juries for this match and I just can't see what Howe would have done differently there, I'm sorry but I think we have hit our peak already under him.

It's not like we had a lot of attacking options on the bench tbf. Despite the loss that was a much better showing compared to recent weeks.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 7:40 pmHowe just doesn't have that extra something to survive at the level we need, last season was the peak I'm afraid, I don't see what difference a fully fit squad would have done today for us or what 2-3 more signings would have done for us. I don't get how you think having a fully fit squad wouldn't have made a difference... yes City would have still been favourites going into it but they're the current champions and a treble winning side ffs - but if we had the likes of Joelinton, Tonali, Willock, Tino & Barnes I reckon we'd have seen that game out at 2-2 or maybe got a win.
I know a lot of people think this season is a write-off but I disagree - we're still in the FA cup and despite another tough game away at Villa coming up, I'm confident we'll pick up some form going into February and there's no reason why we can't push for top 7.
I don't think we've peaked with Eddie yet at all.

I just think it's gone beyond injuries and fatigue, tactically we have been a mess and this has been the case against far lesser teams than man city

Just feel it’s another mental pump up the ass
We seem to have a mentality problem that is a major blocker for us. We should have scored three in that first half, they were all at sea , but heh, the boot in the haw maws was always somehow inevitable
We need to grow a spine !
