Matchday thread - Toon v Cottagers
The magic of The FA Cup returns!
Newcastle return to action at Craven Cottage on Saturday in an FA Cup Fourth Round tie against fellow Premier League side Fulham.
It's a 7pm start, live in the UK on ITV4 and ITVX.
If the scores are level after 90 minutes a replay will be staged. The FA list that as Tuesday February 6th, but that isn't fixed and could be altered for TV.
The winners will take their place in the Fifth Round draw on Sunday, which will be live on ITV around 2pm ahead of their live broadcast of the Liverpool versus Norwich City tie kicking off at 2.30pm.
Newcastle or Fulham will be ball number 16.
Team: Speaking to the press on Friday, Eddie Howe confirmed that Jacob Murphy was back in training but stopped short of saying that he'd play on Saturday.
Joelinton has now undergone surgery on a thigh issue and he joins Nick Pope and the suspended Sandro Tonali on the sidelines.
Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson are all at various stages of returning from injury, but it isn't anticipated that any of them will play in this tie.
Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson are also on the comeback trail but with no firm return date.
Midfielder Joe White is back on Tyneside and training with the first team squad following a half-season loan at Crewe Alexandra, but is cup-tied.
Tonali rates this tie as follows:
NUFC win 27/20
The draw 12/5
FFC win 19/10
NUFC win to nil 7/2
Anthony Gordon first scorer in match 15/2
FFC ahead HT, draw FT 14/1
FFC: Adama Traore remains unavailable due to injury while Alex Iwobi and Fode Ballo-Toure and Calvin Bassey are away on international duty.
While Newcastle had a fortnight to prepare for this tie, Fulham drew 1-1 at home to Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday, losing 2-3 on aggregate.
Referee: Jarred Gillett - a second posting of the season for the Australian official, who was also in charge of our Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea.
VAR: Robert Jones

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Cottagers
Whatever happens, there can be absolutely no “fatigue” argument today. Everyone has had 2 weeks off and no professional athlete should be fatigued after a fortnight off. Fulham also had a game on Wednesday night, so we should hit them full speed from the off.

Maidstone 2 v 1 up against Ipswich! Great FA Cup tie! This is what it's all about. Honestly thought they'd get smashed 5 nil, especially after the first 20 minutes or so. Gonna be a long 15 minutes now though.

Got a sneaking suspicion we'll put on a good show tonight, going for a 3 - 1 win.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

Almiron missing through 'illness'.

I don't enjoy Eni Aluko's punditry (or horrible uber Tory poverty hatred), but I do enjoy the fact that Joey Barton will hopefully be angry enough to not watch our game.

Yep, pretty poor so far. I had to check the line-up again to make sure Bruno was actually playing.
