Matchday thread - Toon v Gunners
Can the Toon complete the double over the Gunners?
Newcastle will attempt to win a third successive PL away game (and fifth in all competitions) when they head to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday for an 8pm kick-off.
The game is live on TNT Sports and a sell out.
Following a 1-0 win on Tyneside earlier in the season, United have the chance to complete a PL win double over the Gunners for the first time since 1994/95.
Last season's 0-0 draw at Arsenal ended a run of 11 successive league and cup defeats in N7, but our wait for a goal continues. It's 777 minutes (657 in PL only) since Ayoze Perez netted here in December 2014.
Team: Nick Pope, Joelinton, Callum Wilson, Matt Targett and Sandro Tonali remain out while Fabian Schar looks to have suffered no ill-effects from the wrist injury incurred on Saturday and is training.
Joe Willock and Alexander Isak are anticipated to be in the squad on Saturday, with Elliot Anderson also nearing a return.
The threat of a two-match PL suspension hangs over Bruno Guimaraes, who is on nine bookings. Anthony Gordon is two PL yellow cards away from suffering the same fate.
Tonali rates this match as follows:
NUFC win 7/1
The draw 4/1
AFC win 4/11
Over 5.5 goals in the match 11/2
0-0 draw 20/1
AFC: Jurrien Timber remains out while Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all doubtful at this stage.
While the Magpies had a full week to prepare for this game, the Gunners travelled to Porto on Wednesday night in the Champions League, losing 0-1 to a goal deep in second half time added on.
This will be Arsenal's thirteenth PL home game of the season; they've won nine, drawn two and lost one of the preceding 12. Fulham and Spurs both took points from 2-2 draws while West Ham won 2-0 there.
Referee: Paul Tierney - a first Magpie posting of the season for the Lancastrian official. We last saw Tierney for the 2-1 PL win at Nottingham Forest in March 2023.

Got a really bad feeling about this one. I can see them scoring so I'm going for a 3 -1 win to the lads.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

2-1 Toon and a red card for Arteta as he goes into meltdown after Arsenal are denied a stonewall penalty in the ninth minute of added time just seconds after The Toon get their second following a lengthy VAR check.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Gunners
They played away in Portugal on Wednesday night, we need to go at them from minute one.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Gunners
Feels a bit harsh on Livramento to give him this game instead of a few easier teams where he can be on the front foot more. Excited to see it though, hopefully he can cover for the midfield being so light at the moment.

Feels like they've got about 14 players on. Missing Joelinton hugely.
