Matchday thread - Toon v 'ammers
Re: Matchday thread - Toon v 'ammers
Our finishing has been atrocious today. Could have already been back to 3-3. Simply not good enough. We don't even deserve any type of Europe at this stage. Call it injuries, bad luck or bad management this season but it hasn't been good enough and I fear we might have to sell Isak/Bruno to fund a complete rebuild as they won't stay much longer if this continues. Our lack of a physical / mobile defensive midfielder is there for everyone to see, we are too open in the midfield and lack a enforcer/destroyer. Longstaff has reached his peak I feel and I don't how he's going to improve from his current standard and his level is not good enough for the top half in the Premier League let alone to be competing for the top 6 consistently and that goes for a lot of players such as Burn, Murphy, Miggy, Lascelles, etc.. there fine as squad players but they shouldn't be consistent starters no more.
We all know we overachieved massively last season but now reality has hit home. Give Howe one more season as he deserves it but if next season this continues I won't be surprised if he gets the sack. So many disjointed and flaky performances / results this season, we go up concede then try come back (Luton, Forest, Bournemouth, etc) and by then it's too late. We are entertaining for the neutrals that's for sure but we got such a soft caramel center in the middle we will keep conceding if we don't get faster and more athletic / mobile defenders and midfielders.

Funny old game this football malarkey.
Haven't a clue how the hell we got back into it , let alone winning.

Sounds like a right cracking game. Been out with the kids in the sunshine, knackered now. Looking forward to seeing the highlights

Well that's one of the most mental games I've been to! All their lot are pissing and moaning about our 2nd pen but not had chance to look at it yet - can anyone here confirm if it was a legit pen or not?
Also their 2nd goal - what happened? I went for a piss and missed it all...

It was a pen, he didn’t see Gordon but he booted right through the back of his leg. It’s irrelevant that Philips “didn’t see he was there”.Chappy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 3:44 pmWell that's one of the most mental games I've been to! For their second, Schar went down injured after a heavy slap to the face (which was accidental after he’d fouled Kudus), but despite our centre back being down hurt, the ref let them take a quick free kick which they ended up scoring from. It’s clear from the replay that Schar got a decent whack, ref should 100% have waited.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v 'ammers
What a f***ing game. All the talk will rightly be about the stupidity of Moyes taking Antonio off for Phillips and then compounding it by bringing a defender on for Ward-Prowse, but the attacking talent we had on the pitch for that last half hour was insane. Gordon, Barnes, Anderson and Hall may only have two haircuts between them, but the intent to cause carnage from all of them was different class. Against a motivated better side we'd have been broken on and conceded a 4th, but today it just worked. Honestly felt a lot like the Arsenal 4-4, but whereas it was the red card in that game that changed the whole complexion and atmosphere of the game, here it was just a combination of our forced subs and their unforced ones.
What a game.
