Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)
The Magpies play the first part of their league and cup double-header against Chlesea on Sunday, when they visit Stamford Bridge for a Premier League fixture.
It's a 2pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports and all 3,000 tickets allocated to Newcastle were sold. The away ticket transfer scheme will operate. Details here
As part of the FSA'S Stop Exploiting Loyalty campaign, fans of both clubs will protest together before the game on Sunday outside Fulham Broadway tube at 11.30am.
Team: Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain out, while Eddie Howe confirmed that the hoped-for return of Callum Wilson has been further delayed for three matches due to fitness issues.
The availability of Matt Targett isn't currently known.
Both Joelinton and Dan Burn are one booking away from an automatic one match suspension.
Coral rate this match as follows:
NUFC win 14/5
The draw 14/5
CFC win 17/20
CFC: Enzo Maresca's side were in Europa Conference action on Thursday night, winning 4-1 at Panathinaikos.
Marcus Bettinelli, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer weren't registered to appear in that competition so didn't trek in Greece.
Levi Colwill, Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Reece James, Malo Gusto and Omari Kellyman didn't travel, but all should be available to face us except the injured Kellyman.
UK TV: Live on Sky Sports
UK Radio: Live on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra
Referee: Simon Hooper - a first Magpie appointment of the current season for the Wiltshire-based official.
His most recent sighting came in last season's final day 4-2 victory at Brentford, having taken charge of our 4-2 home victory over Chelsea in November 2023.

We've played the Blues more than just five other teams in league and cup: the two Manchesters, Everton, Liverpool and Arsenal with Everton the only of those sides not to have beaten us more times than Chelsea.

Fully expect us to lose this, just don’t seem to have a fluency or balance established this season.
2-0 maybe 3-0 so anything resembling a positive result for us will be welcomed like a cup win

Not going to write off a result today based solely on the fact we tend to play better when against the bigger clubs in the league. Good results against Chelsea and Arsenal then we will absolutely s*** it against Forest.

Our record at Chelsea is pretty awful tho. I’d say at home we up our game, it’s far less common when we play one of the bigger sides away.

Our record at Chelsea is very poor indeed, I can't see us scoring more than three today with them getting a lucky, late consolation.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

Wilson missing for another 3 games (at least…), FML he’s getting worse and worse - absolutely no point keeping him when his contract runs out. Delap at Ipswich looking promising as a replacement when they get relegated.

Agreed. Love him but f*** me it ain't half frustrating when a strong breeze puts him out for 9 month.bodacious benny wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 12:58 pmjimileysbaldhead wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 12:31 pmOur record at Chelsea is very poor indeed, I can't see us scoring more than three today with them getting a lucky, late consolation.

No Gordon
For me I'd still be going for Evan Ferguson. His last year has been poor but he's clearly not in Brighton's plans and could fit the "Wilson but not broken" backup role for Isak nicely.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)
Good shout. Or as someone mentioned Ferguson from Brighton aswell. Mbuemo / Wissa would be perfect aswell as they can play out wide and in the canter. Loan Osula / even sell Wilson on a cheap in Jan and go for a proper forward who can be reliable and be a back-up / compliment Isak.bodacious benny wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 12:58 pmjimileysbaldhead wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 12:31 pmOur record at Chelsea is very poor indeed, I can't see us scoring more than three today with them getting a lucky, late consolation.

Gordon has a groin injury, travelled with the squad but not risked.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)
Can someone teach Burn some discipline? I'm sick of him chasing players out of position. He hasn't the pace to close them down through midfield or the recovery speed to overcome the mistakes. I make the complaint partly because he and Schar don't always have great chemistry to predict when the other is going to be more aggressive and compensate, and they both make mistakes.

Wish I’d put more than £2 on Jackson to score first now.
