The amount of free kicks Schar gets to take really annoys me.

Didn’t Tonali take a lot of set pieces for Milan? Hardly seems to get considered here.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:33 pmThe amount of free kicks Schar gets to take really annoys me.

Yeah, he was a massive threat from dead balls. Here I don't think he's even taken one.bodacious benny wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:37 pmDidn’t Tonali take a lot of set pieces for Milan? Why do we not move the ball with some pace.
Everything is laboured , cross and back and try to spring something from a Hail Mary pass
Just ends in loss of possession,
Painful to watch

Wish I had a £ for every time Hall has passed it straight to a Chelsea player today, its just ridiculous, so careless with the ball when we are in good areas

It's almost like making no starting XI upgrades in two straight windows leads to stagnation.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Chelski (Part 1)
This club won't progress any further on the football pitch under Howe, sorry but he has to go, whatever this identity is, if we have one doesn't work, tactically it doesnt work, whatever he's doing in training doesn't work, however he's trying to motivate players doesn't work.
He trusts 5-6 players in the squad, those who just so happen to be the ones always dropping stinkers yet never see time on the bench. We have arguably one of the best CM 3 in the league yet very very rarely dominate the midfield. We have one of the leakiest defences in the league, one of the most demoralised toothless attacks.
Can anyone seriously take a positive out of our direction over the last 12 months?

Certainly seem to be going backwards this season.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:59 pmThis club won't progress any further on the football pitch under Howe, sorry but he has to go, whatever this identity is, if we have one doesn't work, tactically it doesnt work, whatever he's doing in training doesn't work, however he's trying to motivate players doesn't work.

Bruno gives me the shakes everytime he dwells on the ball near his own box. Our midfield seems poor.
Pope is now not really looking like such a good buy given his atrocious footwork.
We may need to go right back the drawing board.
We look like Eddie's Bournemouth playing in black n white.
Having said this - Chelsea are a far far stronger squad than us - and we ran them close today
I'm not sure what the answer is
Top 8 would seem like success this term
Perhaps bring in a Spanish or Portuguese coach who can bring in a load of cheaper/ better options from the continent?

I'm struggling with positives, but I disagree with almost all of your middle paragraph especially in relation to Howe. Our "best CM 3" don't work, or at least certainly haven't so far, and the alternatives (Willock, Longstaff, Miley just coming fit) aren't as good so we're stuck trying to squeeze those 3 into a round hole (or something). He even tried that pseudo 4-4-2 against Brighton to try to accommodate it, but it just isn't the right personnel. We need a proper holding midfielder so that Joelinton/Willock and Bruno/Tonali can push on. Who exactly are these favourites guaranteed a spot, because for me with the exception of maybe Almiron (and potentially Pope after that 2nd...) we've put our best available XI out there today? With Botman, Trippier, Gordon and Wilson out our options are slim at best.Don Sholeone wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:59 pmThis club won't progress any further on the football pitch under Howe, sorry but he has to go, whatever this identity is, if we have one doesn't work, tactically it doesnt work, whatever he's doing in training doesn't work, however he's trying to motivate players doesn't work.

What I will say is we're doing a few weird things, like our centre halves chasing into midfield when Joe and Bruno don't have the discipline to cover, but otherwise it's individual lack of creativity that's killing us. Barnes was s**** as a starter yet again, Isak should have set up an equaliser with a stupidly simple pass and otherwise still doesn't look right, and Almiron is done as a PL player for me.
I thought Hall and Livramento were decent again, but everyone ahead of them is underperforming at the moment.
