Going to be an old man(30) by the time that runs out!
If things don't go to plan, I would not be surprised if Ashley didn't have to pay a large amount to sack Pardew + staff, there will probably be certain things in the contract covering Ashley.

I was thinking that.
There may be clauses that say they can be dismissed for X amount in year 1, X amount in year 2 etc on a decreasing figure as the years go by.
Nevertheless, it is a very positive step.
Is this length managerial contract of unheard of in worldwide football? I can't recall anyone else having such a long contract.

I've always been a fan of the 1 year rolling contract and think every club should adopt this.

Great news. I don't think it's much of a risk, Pardew has proven himself. He's bound to have a bad season in that time, everyone does, this means we're unlikely to sack him through a knee jerk reaction. We'll also get a shitload of cash if anyone tries to take him away, I could see the FA paying a ridiculous sum to pry him away if the England job came up again.

Has its upsides and downsides. The upside is a lack of commitment from either side, making it easy to sever ties if the relationship deteriorates, and that the manager has to really work to secure a contract renewal. The downside is that it essentially opens it up for a media free-for-all (as befell Guardiola for the last couple of seasons) speculating about the position.
