We ask our forum members to rate each player’s performance in the concerned game out of 10, which we then average out to get a rating representative of the fans’ views, we also collect a few user comments to summarise how the player did and show a few different viewpoints from the board. The top scoring player is man of the match; the lowest is mug of the match. Ratings are from this thread, and at the time of writing highlights can be found here.
There were relatively few ratings for this match, possibly due to its lack of entertainment. Man of the match was Abeid at 6.83, with commenters praising his pace and tackling, however a number of users criticised his high scores, despite not leaving ratings of their own. One clear downside was that his set pieces were very poor, even by our low standards. Many players found their ratings in the 4s from this poor performance, but the clear mug of the match was Williamson (3.17), who was at fault for the Burnley goal and overall just not very good.
Pardew continued to slide down the scale with a low rating of 3.50. Starting Gouffran and Williamson was not popular and the team lacked creativity.

Elliot - 4.83 Ratings ranged between 4 and 6
"4 - Just stood and watched the goal go in. He could have at least made it look like he was attempting to save it."
"6 - He was pretty decent throughout, came out a couple of times to clear up pretty well. Think he was just unsighted for the goal."
"5 - Still nowhere near Krul. Made one good save and dashed out a couple of times for good clearances, but was f****** hopeless for their goal. Only in the team cos he's Pardew's mate."
Janmaat - 6.11 Ratings ranged between 5 and 7
"7 - The stand out performer in our defence. He was a threat going forwards as well. Good crossing led to an assist for him."
"5 - Did a Debuchy - nice going forward, shaky at the back. Probably our best defender after Saylor though."
"7 - Think he's better than Buche was for us already."
Williamson - 3.17 Ratings ranged between 2 and 4.5
"3 - Bottled the header in the build up to the Burnley goal. He was calamitous throughout."
"4 - Poor performance, don't know why he started over Taylor."
"3 - Should still be in League 1, was woeful."
Dummett - 4.89 Ratings ranged between 4 and 6
"5 - Not up to his standards of the last few games."
"4.5 - Was part of a shaky defence and should have done better on several occasions."
"5 - He could have blocked the goal if he didn't jump out the way. Otherwise he was decent."
Haïdara - 5.33 Ratings ranged between 4.5 and 6.5
"5 - Seemed to attract bad tackles. Was pretty stifled going forward, think that's just cos Trippier's fairly good though."
"6.5 - Good defensively but better attacking, excellent link up play with Sammy at times."
"4.5 - Looked well off the pace, could see how he was doubtful before the game."
Tioté - 5.17 Ratings ranged between 4.5 and 5.5
"4.5 - Overzealous or out of position, pretty much never found the right balance."
"5 - Off the pace, not sure he fits into our best 11 anymore. Saying that, he'd be first name on the team sheet against Chelsea."
"5.5 - Battled well, another one who lacked sharpness."
Abeid - 6.83 Ratings ranged between 5.5 and 8
"5.5 - Looked off the pace, very poor crossing."
"6.5 - Despite the obvious terrible set pieces was a monster, good going forward, good at tackling really is the complete midfielder aside from AWFUL set pieces"
"7 - Best player on the pitch, taking a point off for those ridiculous long range shots and that corner and the end was shambolic. Also missed a great chance but only got there in the first place because of his ridiculous pace, who knew he was that quick?!"
Gouffran - 4.22 Ratings ranged between 2 and 6.5
"4 - Not too bad, just a shame he should never have started and did nothing to influence the game."
"5 - Better than usual, but that's not saying much. Made up for Cisse's ghastly first touch with some nice ones. Shouldn't be starting though."
"3 - His performance was almost irrelevant, his selection is the first place was nothing short of ridiculous. I had already made up my mind before the game kicked off and he didn't nothing to change my mind. A waste of a shirt."
Pérez - 4.44 Ratings ranged between 4 and 5.5
"4 - He was poor tonight but it wasn't his fault. He's been poorly managed by Pardew as he clearly looked very jaded and in need of a rest. This guy can be the best in the world if managed correctly."
"5.5 - Tried but was way too peripheral, at some times literally, drifting out to the wings where he was just shepherded off the pitch."
"4 - Marshalled out of the game somewhat and still looks ineffective against rough English opposition. More like a luxury player at the moment."
Ameobi - 5.78 Ratings ranged between 5 and 6.5
"6 - Probably our best attacker who started, lovely skill on the wing but no end product."
"6.5 - Good defensively and offensively."
"5 - He's an enigma. I'm not sure if he's good or bad. I don't even think he is himself. One minute he's great and the next minute he looks like he's never seen a football in his life. He did link up well with Haidara though, they seem to be forming a decent relationship down the left."
Cissé - 4.39 Ratings ranged between 3 and 6
"5.5 - Another goal and another point won by Cisse."
"3.5 - I mean, yeah, got a goal, great, but could easily have had 3 if he could just kick a ball straight. In the first ten minutes he was holding up the ball and looking good then he went back to 'I need the ball served to me on a silver plate', which Ameobi and Gouffran just aren't up to."
"4 - Watching him play is like reading erotic fiction. Largely a load of s**** but the odd moment you can get off to. He was awful today bar the goal he scored even if it was probably more of a case of it bouncing of his knee and going in."
S. Taylor - 6.33 Ratings ranged between 5 and 8
"6.5 - Defended well, made a difference and got forward to try and get a winner, when we looked like the only team winning the game."
"6.5 - Shored up the back line significantly."
"8 - Man of the match for me. He changed the game when he came on. He was miles better than Williamson. Shored the defence up. Had the entire Burnley attack in his back pocket and made some great bursting runs out of defence. He has to be starting."
Cabella - 6.50 Ratings ranged between 5 and 7
"7 - Changed the game when he came on. Showed his class and well. He has to be starting."
"6.5 - Gave us some actual impetus. Why the f*** didn't he start? And why isn't he played with Perez when they looked so good together?"
"7. Changed the game. Would have been perfect starting against Burnley and getting them worried, which is what he did for most of his time on the pitch. Probably our best player from set pieces too."
Rivière - 4.28 Ratings ranged between 4 and 5
"4 - Looked way off the pace, couldn't complete a simple 10 yard pass."
"4.5 - Still has shown nothing to make me think he'll ever be cut out for this level."
"5 - Made some nice flicks. Otherwise did nothing of note."
Pardew - 3.50 Ratings ranged between 2 and 5.5
"5.5 - Wrong tactics at the start, changed it at half time and made good subs, glad to see Cisse and Perez both start, just a shame it didn't work better."
"4 - Set up not to lose against a poor side who we should be beating. The selection of Gouffran and Williamson is nothing short of baffling. Thankfully saw sense and made changes at the break which meant we scraped a point but it should have been more. His post match comments made me want to vomit."
"4 - Poorly set up for attacking in the first half. Shouldn't have started Gouffran or Willo. At least he corrected his mistakes, albeit Perez should've either stayed on or just not been played."
"3. Should be winning those sort of games. The hoof ball tactics were horrific, he seems to have reverted to type these past two games which is a shame. It shows he's still learnt nothing which is staggering. How can he be so ignorant and stubborn. Playing Williamson over Saylor was a joke. As was not playing Cabella and starting Gouffran. He should have considered resting Perez as well since we had lots of attacking options available and he clearly needed a rest, the lad is a future Ballon D'Or winner but he needs to be managed properly at this young age. He should have been rested tonight and brought back in for Chelsea. Pardew doesn't do squad rotation though unless it's forced on him by injuries or suspensions. The sooner we sack him and get a more competent manager in the better. Sadly it looks like it's never going to happen."
