It's high risk though. They're building their side around one player presumably, if he gets injured they're going to be massively weakened but still saddled with the financial burden. Michael Owen was probably worth what we paid for him, he scored something like 7 goals in his first 11 games and then got injured. He would've scored over a hundred goals for us had he stayed fit. In the end we got relegated with a colossal amount of debt during his final season with us, a shadow of the player we'd signed because of two serious injuries.

I'm sure it was even better than that. 7 in his first 9, broke his foot in the 10th, came back as a sub right at the end of the season and then missed 12 months with the knee injury at the world cup. Never looked the same player, his best form after that came as a deeper player under Keegan.

That's probably why Liverpool are holding out for a huge fee. They'll probably lose a few more million to the player and agents.

Looks like a good deal for everyone except the Bayern fans, as he was one of their favourites.

ManU get an extremely experienced player with a winning mentality, and he already knows van Gaal (who was the first coach who used him as a defensive midfielder). He can still have two years at top level if he won't get injured too often.

Bayern get 15 million GBP with just one year left on his contract, and they still have several options in defensive midfield left.

It'll be exciting to see how he will perform at ManU.

Agree with this, will have the Carrick role at Man U. Apparently Morgan Schneiderlin having a medical as well. Be a strong CM partnership there.

The other point to appreciate is that the Sterling transfer is almost the same as the FFP fine. Irony indeed.
