I'm sure it was even better than that. 7 in his first 9, broke his foot in the 10th, came back as a sub right at the end of the season and then missed 12 months with the knee injury at the world cup. Never looked the same player, his best form after that came as a deeper player under Keegan.AbsolutelyGlorious wrote:It's high risk though. They're building their side around one player presumably, if he gets injured they're going to be massively weakened but still saddled with the financial burden. Michael Owen was probably worth what we paid for him, he scored something like 7 goals in his first 11 games and then got injured. He would've scored over a hundred goals for us had he stayed fit. In the end we got relegated with a colossal amount of debt during his final season with us, a shadow of the player we'd signed because of two serious injuries.Goat wrote:Money definitely talks. I can imagine the £100k per week thing being spot on.
The annoying thing is that you can't really say it's bad business either. If Cabaye has a big positive impact and Palace shoot up the table, it's money well spent. Sometimes it's better to spend £100k on one player instead of £50k each on two players.

That would be a horrendous move for Delph's career. Bank balance would be looking good though.
Kindly deeds done for free!

£49m for Sterling.
I'm not sure I'd value him at half that. Especially with his prima donna personality.

Aaron's a very similar player. He's free.

He's not even played 100 Premier League games yet, nor scored 20 Premier League goals!
Andy Carroll still the third most expensive British player at £35million!

That's probably why Liverpool are holding out for a huge fee. They'll probably lose a few more million to the player and agents.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?
Re: Other Clubs' Transfer Rumours/Deals (Summer 15/16)
The whole thing has been a shitshow for both Liverpool and Sterling.

Looks like a good deal for everyone except the Bayern fans, as he was one of their favourites.Bodacious Benny wrote:Good signing for them.Andy the German lad wrote:Looks like ManUtd is really about to sign Schweinsteiger
ManU get an extremely experienced player with a winning mentality, and he already knows van Gaal (who was the first coach who used him as a defensive midfielder). He can still have two years at top level if he won't get injured too often.
Bayern get 15 million GBP with just one year left on his contract, and they still have several options in defensive midfield left.
It'll be exciting to see how he will perform at ManU.

I think he'll do well, 31 is no age for a modern pro.

Agree with this, will have the Carrick role at Man U. Apparently Morgan Schneiderlin having a medical as well. Be a strong CM partnership there.Bodacious Benny wrote:I think he'll do well, 31 is no age for a modern pro.
And in conclusion, how far had you got through reading this before you realised it was my signature?

Mandy second:
Rio Ferdinand £29m
Rooney £27m
Shaw £27m
Milner £26m
Beckham £25m
Lallana £25m
Bent £24m
Lescott £22m
The other point to appreciate is that the Sterling transfer is almost the same as the FFP fine. Irony indeed.

Papers reckon Cavani could replace RVP. 34 in 65. Good stats.

Any more news on Lombaerts to the mackems? Would be a decent signing that, even though he's knocking on a bit now.
