A question pour vous
Would you be happy with a 16th place finish this season, with at least 11 local lads from the youth team making their debuts and at least 3 of them becoming regular first teamers?
Or finishing in the top 10 with youth only brought in in emergencies?
At what point do we sacrifice our season for the youth?
You see articles all the time on why England are rubbish and it's because our youngsters aren't getting a chance. But when this happens, the manager gets criticised if the results don't go their way - see Paul Lambert.
So do you want to win things or do you want to see local lads performing for their team at the highest level. A team that you could truly get behind?
I'm not in judgement either way, just interested.

I believe the children are our future.
Teach them well and let them lead the way.
But not to the detriment of a decent league finish.
Or a long and fruitful cup run.
In either cup competitions.

If English youngsters were good enough they'd get a chance, the fact of the matter is that England aren't that good at football. I'm not willing to sacrifice our season just to satisfy the soulless, incompetent twerps at the FA.

I care less about the England team. I want the best players. If youngsters are good we save money I guess

It's true to an extent. But still most clubs are scared to throw in a youngster and stick with experienced players who play like complete s**** on a regular basis.TrinLaden wrote:If English youngsters were good enough they'd get a chance, the fact of the matter is that England aren't that good at football. Joe Kinnear: "I think they've got some magnificent midfield players; Tiote, Ben Afri, Yohan Kebab, Sissoko are very solid."
Re: A question pour vous
I can't think of any side in the Prem ever that has used 11 players from their youth system in a season. 3, 4 or 5 is rare in any season, unless you count Man U's class of 92.
And in conclusion, how far had you got through reading this before you realised it was my signature?

Ashley tells you it's raining. Do you look out the window?
Re: A question pour vous
I think we should play our best team possible (obviously with a bit of rotation to keep the squad fresh) and finish as high up the table as possible. I hope some young players can break into that team but if they aren't good enough to then I don't want us to go sacrificing our Premier League status in order to field the youth team every week.
Re: A question pour vous
How bad was Willo last season? Youngsters could have been used. Armstrong had some great form and was knocking on the door but still couldn't get anything but a cameo here and there. The problem is even if they are good enough they don't get that shot.TJR wrote:I think we should play our best team possible (obviously with a bit of rotation to keep the squad fresh) and finish as high up the table as possible. How many centre halfs come through in their teens? If it's Williamson or Satka I'm picking Williamson every time, sad as that may be. I've explained my thoughts on Armstrong too often to repeat but I still think his development has been helped by not playing under Carver's 'management'.
