This is the best decision that could have been made. You only need to look at his post match interviews towards the end of last season which shows he has a natural leadership quality to him.
Looking forward to seeing how he does, will hopefully be a vast improvement on Colo.

Is he the youngest (permanent) captain we've had since the PL began?

Delighted by this. Although it was, as Rafa put it, not rocket science I am still excited by this news
Re: Lascelles confirmed as captain
I think you may be right Although I know Jermaine Jenas was pretty young when he was the Vice-Captain about 12 years ago. Not sure if that counts though??Colback's Orange Tufts wrote:Is he the youngest (permanent) captain we've had since the PL began?

Oh yeah I'd forgot about Jenas. If I get time later may have a look if he's the youngest in the leagueP.T.N wrote:I think you may be right Although I know Jermaine Jenas was pretty young when he was the Vice-Captain about 12 years ago. Well deserved and great news for the club.
Yet another magnificent decision from Rafa.

Had a few decent games at the back end of the season but wasn't great earlier on, hope he plays well enough to keep his place in the starting line up.
And in conclusion, how far had you got through reading this before you realised it was my signature?

Looked trash when he played alongside Coloccini and Williamson. Looked much better when he played with Mbemba.Alfie wrote:Had a few decent games at the back end of the season but wasn't great earlier on, hope he plays well enough to keep his place in the starting line up.

he was easily the best candidate for it, happy with this
Re: Lascelles confirmed as captain
Early on he was playing under McClaren though, since Rafa came in and he got to grips with his tactics he was different class.Alfie wrote:Had a few decent games at the back end of the season but wasn't great earlier on, hope he plays well enough to keep his place in the starting line up.

Impressive interview, not that I put much stock in these things but clearly better than Colo's non appearances. I'ts good PR for sure. All footballers are programmed to literally mis-use 'literally' and 'unbelievable'
