So that was from Thauvin at Newcastle since Marseille have "obligation to make the move permanent". Good.

Re: Thauvin Returns to Marseille (Done Deal)
Exactly. It was so odd to see how we tracked him for ages and then threw him out so quickly when he'd hardly played at all, and everyone else in the side was playing terribly too.Colly wrote:Ludicrous considering this was that first month:I'm over Colo wrote: This. I have to believe our scouting and coaches weren't on the same page with his signing, because he was hardly given a chance considering some of the players we've suffered with, despite the fact we tracked him for years.
I was getting annoyed with Ryder's tweets about him, which really put the blame on him for "quitting" on Newcastle, and other such language. Clearly the club didn't want him from nearly the first month he arrived, and that appears the same through today. So regardless of what his attitude has been, for him to keep suggesting he's forced his way out or has "quit" seems to completely misrepresent the situation and take the onus completely off of the club - who clearly botched the Cabella and Thauvin transfers.

Tongue slightly in cheek, but he needed more of a chance.
As others have said, it's great to have a manager in charge who can imprint his vision on the club and its recruitment, knowing he has a plan for how they'll be played. We should definitely be able to avoid situations like his going forward.
Re: Thauvin Returns to Marseille (Done Deal)
Cabella and Thauvin played a combined 2741 mins of football for us. That's about 30 games. Spent about £24m plus wages on them. What a mess.
Re: Thauvin Returns to Marseille (Done Deal)
I wouldn't say he had a great goal scoring record when he did get a chance in a weaker league unlike Luuk Dr hong. The guys gash and a complete waste of money.Colly wrote:Riviere is another who barely got a chance. "Play up top on your own with zero service and score goals". Riv even had a s*** record at Monaco didn't he? It's as easy to score in the French top flight as it is the SPL and he couldn't do it there.

He cost the same amount as our 4th choice CB.Bodacious Benny wrote:Riv even had a s*** record at Monaco didn't he? It's as easy to score in the French top flight as it is the SPL and he couldn't do it there.

And he'd probably score more than Riv if he played up frontALF wrote:He cost the same amount as our 4th choice CB.Bodacious Benny wrote:Riv even had a s*** record at Monaco didn't he? It's as easy to score in the French top flight as it is the SPL and he couldn't do it there.

Nah his goals per minutes in his last season was amongst the highest in the league IIRCBodacious Benny wrote:Riv even had a s*** record at Monaco didn't he? It's as easy to score in the French top flight as it is the SPL and he couldn't do it there.

Re: Thauvin Returns to Marseille (Done Deal)
To re-interpret a little bit. He was clearly not a good signing for us. Almost identical to the Cabella signing, after the club had clearly written him off, yet dearer and with worse hair. Was never given a proper chance and clearly never wanted to be here. Whether he can cut it in the premier league remains to be seen, and probably never will. Failed signing for us and waste of money. However, even though he's not exactly done so much towards it, he has a world cup winners medal. Nothing to sniff at.

He's a f***ing cronut. No doubt about it. A cowardly f***ing cronut. He might have a world.cup winners medal which he contributed nothing to but he was undeniably a waste of space here. Pathetic little cronut he was.
