Firm nufc.com
The Magpies face Wednesday at a sold out SJP on Monday (Boxing Day). Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
With nearest rivals Brighton not playing until the following day, victory over the Owls would open up a four point gap on Chris Hughton's Seagulls.
NUFC: Rolando Aarons and Jesus Gamez remain out through injury, while Jonjo Shelvey is suspended for the first of five matches. Grant Hanley and Jack Colback both appear to be out, meaning that Cheick Tiote may find himself back in the reckoning.
SWFC: Striker Fernando Forestieri is available after serving a three game ban and has netted in each of his last three Championship appearances.
The Owls have won four of their last five fixtures but enjoyed mixed fortunes away from Hillsborough.
Wins came at Blackburn, Huddersfield and Wolves, points were acquired at Norwich, Brentford, Cardiff and Fulham and there were fruitless visits to Burton, Birmingham, Derby and Reading.
Referee: Paul Tierney - Lancashire-based whistler who is currently alternating between Premier League and EFL duties. This is his second Newcastle game so far this season, following the 2-0 win at Barnsley.

That Forestieri seems a bit of a danger though.

Not confident despite a Toondes thread. Really think we're gonna miss Shelvey. Hope I'm wrong.

I can see Weds just trying to hit us on the counter attack whilst we create very little.Chappy wrote:Not confident despite a Toondes thread. Really think we're gonna miss Shelvey. Hope I'm wrong.

This is what I think well, I just can't see where any creativity is going to come from - unless the 2 wingers have a blinder and the cm just feeds them. I think we'll get it right after a few games without Shelvey but with this being the first without him I just can't see us bossing the midfieldChappy wrote:Not confident despite a Toondes thread. He really makes us tick when he's playing well unfortunately that's only 2 out of 5 games maybe? The rest of the time he's and overrated bottler who can only pass the ball 5 yards sideways. The main problem is that Rafa generally swaps him with Colback. Would rather see Anita replace him and have Yedlin at right back.Chappy wrote:Not confident despite a Toondes thread. I'd settle for him simply not panicking to get rid every time he's in possession.
