NUFC All Time Championship XI - Best Nickname

Post by Paco » Mon May 08, 2017 2:48 pm

Harper
Yedlin - Coloccini - Clark - Enrique
Ritchie - Shelvey - Nolan - Gutierrez
Carroll - Gayle
Subs: Darlow, Simpson, Lascelles, Guthrie, Atsu, Ameobi, Lovenkrands

Manager: Chris Hughton

A team based around the two championship winning teams of 09/10 and 16/17. The 92/93 is not included as I reckon most of the users here were not alive or old enough to know the team well.

The formation will be 4-4-2 as that's the one we used in 09/10 and we effectively played 4-4-1-1 this year so it's not a drastic change. Players must have 10 appearances for the club in the season to qualify.

Stats are for all competitions <ok>

Not sure it matters, Barton wouldn't get in anyway. Think it's gonna be harsh on Guthrie missing out as well.

Edit: Guthrie - 5 goals, 13 assists. Shelvey - 5 goals, 8 assists. <awe>

Yeah I'll leave it as it is, Guthrie could make the second CM spot to be far, as I presume everyone will pick Nolan.

Yeah I might whack the assist stats on there tomorrow.

Harper for me. Conceded marginally fewer goals in 2009/10 I think and had a consistent season.

Darlow did have a largely very good season tbf too.

Harper broke our clean sheet record that season, gotta make it. Darlow has had a good season but had a few too many mistakes I'd say. Matz Sels... not as bad as people have made out but needs a loan next year.

Made an emphatic league debut as a half time substitute in the first game of the season, produced 3 top class saves. Then his next league game was the final weekend of the season. Won the shirt following a shoulder injury to Harper in the game against Everton where Hatem scored a worldy.

Got to have Simpson in the team, he's the only premier league winners medal holder in the lot.....

I think it should be 451. Played it all this season and some of the last time. Plus we have strength in midfield

If Diame's being counted as a striker then Nolan definitely should

Wiki reckons we played 4-4-2 44 times, 4-4-1-1 5 times and 4-5-1 2 times in 09/10. Normally this season we played with one of Perez or Diame behind the striker and I've therefore classified both as strikers.
Beatski wrote:If Diame's being counted as a striker then Nolan definitely should
Diame played the vast majority of games as a number 10, Nolan usually played behind a front pair. Having looked at NUFC.com it looks like he only played as a striker or 10 when we had difficult away games, and thus had two of Butt/Smith/Guthrie in CM. Therefore I'm going to keep it as is.

Disappointing lack of Pancrate and Harewood in these squads.
