Re: Chinese Consortium interested in buying NUFC
The Times:
‘Mike Ashley has dropped the asking price for Newcastle United to £380 million in an attempt to complete a sale.
Newcastle have effectively been on the market for several years without finding a buyer, but there were fresh negotiations with Chinese investors last summer and Ashley said that he valued the club at £400 million.
In talks that have led to several potential buyers signing non-disclosure agreements in recent weeks however, Ashley has indicated that he would sell for £380 million, as well as emphasising that Newcastle possess a world-class manager in Rafael Benítez.
Ashley is determined to get more than double the £180 million he paid for Newcastle ten years ago, although brokers believe that he is being optimistic.’
Booooooooooooooo.

The more I think about it we're more likely to be sold now because having been nursed back to wealth the club is way more attractive to buy.

Everyone is pissed off, Nufc play well, nobody has anything to complain about, put out a report claiming Ashley is holding out for a large amount, fans call him a greedy bastard ect, status quo is restored.

Wait why are we annoyed that Ashley doesn't want to sell our club with a lot of recent investment (Not just players/managers but backroom staff, academy, womens side etc.) on the cheap?

380 million doesn't even seem high to me. Considering individual players are now being sold for 200 million, revenue and operating costs are sky high, Man U are valued at 1.5 billion or something, and American sports teams are being sold for 2-3 billion dollars.Don Sholeone wrote:Everyone is pissed off, Nufc play well, nobody has anything to complain about, put out a report claiming Ashley is holding out for a large amount, fans call him a greedy bastard ect, status quo is restored.
I'm still scared of potential ownership groups, especially ones that balked at 400 million given the going rate for actually competing in the Premier League these days.
Re: Chinese Consortium interested in buying NUFC
It's expensive when you consider it would make us the 2nd or 3rd most expensive English football club. Inflation or not, when Southampton is being sold for £280m last year, we aren't worth £100m more now.I'm over Colo wrote:380 million doesn't even seem high to me. Re: Chinese Consortium interested in buying NUFC
Tbh our brand and the fan base is bigger than Southhampton's. And that's the most important thing at the market. If that was the academy, Ajax will cost at least half a billion.
The best part of this valuation is, that this mean serious intend for the new buyers. The people against the selling always speak about QPR, Blackburn and some like that. But those teams was sold for less than 50 million pounds. If you buy a club for 400 million pounds means serious intent. And two things. You will give more money to Rafa than ashley give him in the summer. Or if they choose to replace Rafa, they will bring another big name, not another pardew or Carver or McClaren.
Imo if there's some truth about the new Rafa's contract and the basic talks about selling our club, this means that the most serious buyers will want to keep Rafa at charge. Otherwise why you will give a new contract to your manager who now take 5 mill per year, just the new owners to sack him with their arrival?
