Match thread - NUFC v WHU

Post by Toondes » Sat Aug 26, 2017 9:10 am

Here we go again.
As always , massive thanks to NUFC.com
(Mods feel free to delete / remove but as there is no thread yet I thought I'd make it)

WEST HAM - (H)

Two winless sides go head to head at Gallowgate this afternoon in an old-fashioned 3pm kick-off.

The last remaining tickets are on public sale, while the visitors will be backed by a sold-out away section.

The Hammers have taken maximum points from just one of their last 13 visits to Tyneside and are looking to avoid their third successive PL loss - they began with four defeats in a row as recently as 2010/11.

Defeat for the home side would see them pointless after their opening three league games for the first time since 1999/00 under Ruud Gullit.

NUFC: Jonjo Shelvey will sit this game out as he completes his three match suspension, while Paul Dummett remains unavailable.

Rolando Aarons and Dwight Gayle are both rated as doubtful while Florian Lejeune, DeAndre Yedlin and Karl Darlow have all been ruled out - the latter meaning a place on the bench for Freddie Woodman.

Roads around SJP will be traffic free for 20 minutes either side of the final whistle, with barriers closed at these junctions:

Strawberry Place/Leazes Park Road
Strawberry Place/Barrack Road
Strawberry Place/St James Street
Strawberry Lane

Leazes Terrace will also be traffic-free for the same period, additionally closing from 2pm.

There's a Newcastle United Food Bank collection at the stall on Strawberry Place.

WHUFC: Marko Arnautovic is suspended and Winston Reid misses out through injury. Andy Carroll may be included in the travelling squad after recovering from his latest ailment.

Ahead of their trip to Tyneside, Slaven Bilic had the distraction of the League Cup winning 2-0 away to Cheltenham Town on Wednesday night.

Referee: Neil Swarbrick - Lancashire-based official who handled a pair of cup ties involving United last season: the shootout loss at Hull in the League Cup and the FA Cup draw at Birmingham City.

Travel: Don't forget that the Metro is still off in both directions between Shiremoor and South Gosforth. The usual 900 bus replacement service is in operation.

If we can actually play football today that will at least be some sort of moral victory.

Just can't see where our goals are gonna come from tbh. Another loss. Can't wait.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

This. We have to change something in attack weather that be starting Joselu or Mitrov and starting the likes of Murphy and Aarons. I would like to see how that would work as I'm still not sure Ritchie is cut out for the Premier League as a winger, his lack of pace is worrying and his dead balls/deliveries haven't been that great in the 3 matches we have had so far but his work-rate, shooting and vision is there so could work out well in a no.10 role as that seems to be the biggest concern in our starting XI with Diame and Perez not justifying there good enough in that position especially Diame who the sooner he gets sold the better unless he's going to be played in CM.

Team is the same as West Ham but with Joselu in for Gayle. Yawn.

In the premier league i do think Ritchie would be better suited to a #10 role, but yeah, definitely wont happen <laugh>

Definitely. Don't think he has the dribbling ability or that dynamic speed to be a Premier League winger. He has the finesse, shooting ability, high-work and vision to make it as a no.10 though that's for sure. Aarons Ritchie Atsu Joselu should have been the attacking quadruple. Hayden-Merino partnership isn't exactly inspiring either.
