Match thread - NUFC v Palace
Crystal Palace (h)
Newcastle return to SJP on Saturday looking to make it three games without defeat in the Premier League - and extend their unbeaten home run to four.
Kick-off against the PL's basement side is at an old-fashioned 3pm and the game is a sell out.
United should go into the game still in ninth with Friday's teams, Brighton and West Ham needing an avalanche of goals to go above us. The Saturday lunchtime game features teams already above us - Watford and Chelsea.
NUFC: There's a doubt over Dwight Gayle, while Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara remain unavailable. Isaac Hayden is a yellow card away from reaching five and a one match ban.
The Ware Rooms on Carliol Square in Newcastle continue their popular discount offer of 20% off your food and drink bill on NUFC home matchdays.
The offer applies before and after the game - to claim your 20% discount, just show your season ticket card or paper ticket for the match when ordering.
The Ware Rooms are at 17 Carliol Square NE1 6UQ - 5 minutes walk from both Monument and Manors Metro.
Parking: Northumbria University offer weekend car parking to the public for £4 all day (or £1 per hour). 500 spaces are available at Lipman and City Campus East: book online here or turn up to pay & display.
CPFC: Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham both remain sidelined. The game could see a first return to Gallowgate for ex-Magpie Andros Townsend, along with fellow SJP old boy Patrick van Aanholt.
Eagles boss Roy Hodgson was at St. Mary's on Sunday to watch Newcastle draw with Southampton, 24 hours after his Palace side collected their first points of the season, beating Chelsea 2-1 at Selhurst Park.
Asked about Saturday's visit to Tyneside, Roy said:
"It’s always a chore or a challenge going up there however well they are playing."
Hodgson @ SJP as a manager:

Pizza Express in Dean Street are offering anyone with a valid match ticket a 30% reduction on their total food bill. Only one match ticket is required for a full table to qualify - open from 11.30am.
Referee: Stuart Attwell. A swift return to SJP for the whistler from Warwickshire having been in the middle for Stoke's visit last month. He took charge of us just once last season, the 1-2 loss at Sheffield Wednesday.
Attwell's last Premier League game saw him show six yellow cards, including two for ex-Mag Andy Carroll as he was sent off for West Ham at Burnley.
Travel: No scheduled Metro disruptions on Saturday (NB: buses replace trains between Haymarket, Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends until 6pm on Sunday).
Roads around SJP will be traffic free for 20 minutes either side of the final whistle, with barriers closed at these junctions:
Strawberry Place/Leazes Park Road

Decent amount of Saturday games considering there have been European matches in mid-week.

I have a bad feeling about this game, for some reason i just don't see us turning up.
I can see Palace playing on the counter and Zaha will give our defence big problems throughout the game.
0-2 Palace.

Re: Match thread - NUFC v Palace
Aye same. Hate games with have the air of "we should win this" as I fear we'll lose. Much prefer games when we're expected to lose, so a point or more is a bonus. Or games where you think it could go either way, so if we lose you're still gutted but you think "well it could have gone either way before the match so not totally unexpected".The Deluded Pablo Diego Jose Francisco wrote:I have a bad feeling about this game, for some reason i just don't see us turning up.

In terms of difficulty I'd put this in the same bracket as Stoke and West Ham at home. We won't both of those so I'm going for a win.

I've managed to watch three games so far this season, we won all three. Will be watching tomorrow, so quietly confident. 2-0, Perez any time goal scorer.

Re: Match thread - NUFC v Palace
Exactly the type of game where we all go into it expecting a nice comfortable win and then watch as we stroll about not giving a s*** and we get beat 0-2.

Going today and expecting a draw - reason? When expectations are high we don't turn up. If things have changed recently then I would love to be proven wrong - it was still true however in the championship under Rafa so 1-1

Joselu has, in my opinion, been just a little bit of a disappointment so far. He's scored two well-taken goals in six starts, and hasn't had any assists. Today is his chance to set that right. I think he is potentially a good player, but unless he becomes more productive in the combination goals/assists, then I can't imagine his centre-forward position will be very secure. I hope he proves me wrong, and today he has a good opportunity to score or assist.

Think this will be a trickier game than most expect. They have a lot of pace going forward and we'll need to be well drilled. Hoping for a victory though.

Were Chelsea having an off day or were Palace just really good?
