Match thread - Man City v NUFC
Manchester City (a)
Newcastle attempt to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games on Saturday, when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for a 5.30pm kick-off.
An unlikely three points for Rafa's side would be their third successive away win in the PL, something not achieved by the Magpies since December 2001.
A defeat wouldn't quite end our title hopes but we'd be 42 points behind City with 14 games remaining and a goal difference deficit of at least 62....
United have sold their full ticket allocation.
NUFC: Jesus Gamez, Florian Lejeune and Aleksandar Mitrovic are all back in training following injury, but only the Serb has a chance of making this game.
MCFC: Vincent Kompany, Benjamin Mendy, Gabriel Jesus and Fabian Delph all miss out.
City had a rare free week ahead of our visit, having won ten of their 11 PL home games so far this season. Their only dropped points at the Etihad came when they were held 1-1 by Everton back in August.
The last team to beat City on their own ground in the PL were Chelsea, 3-1 winners in December 2016.
Sunday saw Pep Guardiola's side beaten for the first time in the PL this season, losing 3-4 to Liverpool at Anfield and ending a 30 game unbeaten run that stretched back to April 2017.
Referee: Paul Tierney - second Toon game of the season for the Lancashire-based official, following November's 0-1 home defeat by Bournemouth.
Travel: engineering work means Trans-Pennine train services to and from Manchester are disrupted and aren't running to timetable.

After the week we've had it would be just like us to sneak a 1-0 win but, unfortunately, to do that we have to get the ball in their half of the field!

If we're going to get hammered I'd take a Sterling hattrick and a Danilo screamer for my FPL team...

I don't mind games like this at all. We're expected to get thumped so if it happens it happens. Drawing at home to Swansea and Brighton will be far worse for me than getting dicked by City.Chappy wrote:I'm gonna completely ignore this game today.

I reckon we'll win today.
They'll still be shaken up from last weekend and they've got some mentally weak humans in their squad so it'll take a while for them to recover.

I'd like to see the same tactics we played away to stoke, players with a bit more freedom and movement and I think it suits us better on the road.
Of course none of this matters because we're still going to get completely fisted, but still nice to see the system used.
