Whilst the international window isn't open yet, you see stuff about players joining prem teams getting confirmed anyway. Possibly as a result of the world cup so some stuff is accelerated. Deals can be agreed etc before the window is officially opened, the transfer just goes through then. I think Don's point was that Dubravka should be a done deal really, considering he's affordable and seems to want to come. Having an agreed clause in his loan clause seemed to make it a formality. For my money it's just the way we do business, don't announce anything until there's something to announce. Janmaat comes to mind a few years ago. He was in the ground and all sorts but wasn't announced until a few days later, when Debuchy joined Arsenal.

Exactly, it's not a case of the window opens on whatever date, deals can be done well before the window opens and you see it every season from a lot of clubs, but knowing us, we will get to 14th July and then announce Dubravka, there is never any urgency and quite simple things become overly complicated, everything this club does now is infuriating and frustrating, we have seen it with transfers before and we see it with takeover talks, we will get to a point where nobody will want to do business with us due to how much time we waste.

The problem is that it comes across pretty unambitious, if you sort things out promptly it's good PR, fans are put at ease as are the players and you also look good in the eyes of potential signings, even if you don't intend to splash out silly money you still need to show a serious intent. As for out of the blue signings, they are great and exciting but in this day and age it's going to be super rare that it happens, even more so in our case.

This is true. We could get offered CRon for £10m and he'd try to knock the figure down.

Pretty sure that Ashley is quoted as not getting involved with player recruitment or the day to day operations.

He signs off the budget and Charnley et al get on with f***ing negotiations up instead.
