Players from (possibly) relegated teams

Post by Colback's Orange Tufts » Sun Apr 08, 2018 1:05 pm

So, we look almost safe now, this thread is a bit of a risk in case the wheels come off but...

What players from teams that could get relegated you think are solid PL performers we could look at and possibly afford?
We need a CF and no 10... slim pickings...

West Brom - Some decent players in the past but ageing and we don't buy if no resale value (Brunt, Morrison, Dawson). I'd take Rondon.. for the right price. Hegazi seems decent but we have CBs. Not sure Gibbs better than Dummett. Rodriguez and Struridge are crocks.
Southampton - Clearly underperforming, lots of players good on the ball, not sure fits out style though. Tadic on form is very good, Romeu is probably better than Hayden or Diame. Ward-Prowse and Boufal don't fit Benitez right? Redmond blows hot and cold, I'd rather develop Muphy/Atsu (or ideally Keneddy). Soares seems on par with Yedlin. Forster is good, but looks like we are sorted at GK for now.
Stoke - Despite his attitude, if Stoke go down Shaquiri will end up above us. Never really rated Joe Allen. Afellay? Cameron and Shawcross are very good imo. I'd completely forgot they had Saido Berahino.
Palace - Townsend the obvious one, although we aren't as desperate for him now? Luka Milivojević gets you goals. Zaha will cost too much. Benteke has no confidence, but if he could get it back he's quality. Van Aanholt as a more attacking LB?
Huddersfield - Not seen loads of them. Moy been pretty good. Ince? Prichard has potential at no 10 but we need a bit more?
Swansea - Probably fine now but. I rate one of the Ayew's but not sure which one. I rate Mawson. Similar to Southampton, tidy passing players aren't for us? Stay far away from Fer, he's very efficient at getting teams relegated. Struggling... Bony was good once but now?

Wouldn't want any of them tbf.

Rather us secure Kenedy and Dubravka - both of which are good solid players and will probably be cheaper than any of those you've listed.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

Yeah don't exactly disagree, but I've not watched much of the other teams, thought someone might have a different view.
Guess it also depends if we lose any players. Could see bids for Lascelles /Lejeune (get Mawson or Shawcross in), Shelvey, Perez, Mereno. Under Ashley, if the price is right we'll sell

The players I've bolded I'd be interested in

In terms of strikers Rondon and Benteke I think would fit well into out system as they are both target men and good a holding the ball up

Ward Prowse I agree prob doesn't fit our style but he has great potential. Tadic would be an amazing signing as he can play all across the midfield but i'd say he'll cost at least 20m which i don't think we'll pay and I think he'll be on even a top 6 teams radar perhaps Liverpool and I've heard a few German teams are looking at him very closely, Dortmund being one.

West Brom - either Rondon or Rodriguez
Southampton - unpopular opinion but I've always considered Steven Davis a decent player but getting on at 33 now.
Stoke - nobody springs to mind.
Palace - could see Benitez going for Townsend again should they drop. Milivojević wouldn't be a bad shout.
Huddersfield - I like Mooy - would definitely give us some impetus through the middle.
Swansea - maybe Benitez would try and get Abraham on loan again?

West Brom and Stoke are gone IMO. Last place is a toss up between Palace and Saints at the minute. I think Hudds and Swansea are just about out of it, bar a nosedive/miraculous recovery from the others. Would definitely look at Rondon from Albion, but the price is a factor. The fact they are apparently in serious debt might help there, but I'm not sure if he's a 20m+ striker. Arguably better than what we have.

With Stoke, I wouldn't go in for Shaquiri personally, although I can see why some would. Not unlike Ben Arfa, bags of talent but questionable attitude. Rafa has built quite a strong team dynamic now, I'd stay clear. Always rated Shawcross, and while he's getting a bit long in the tooth wouldn't be against bringing him in. Especially if we end up losing Lascelles.

Bertrand would probably be an upgrade on Dummett, but not by much. The latter has been really good this season, and has earnt his place as starting left back. Would look at Ward-Prowse and Romeu as midfield options. Wouldn't have Tadic, I feel we are pretty strong out wide now. Especially as said in the OP, if we somehow keep Kenedy.

Would take Milivojevic from Palace for sure. Maybe Kelly as an alternative backup to Manqullio. Can play both sides.

There's certainly a lot of s*** at those teams!

Looking at realistic signings I'd only take Rondon who can do a very good job as a target man. Evans will go on the cheap to Man C or Arsenal, and Lejune and Lascelles look solid for us so we only really need a back up / young CB prospect maybe.

Southampton, I'd take Ward-Prowse who I think is a very tidy player. Romeu has the odd great game but is he really that good? Tadic is talented but not sure he's up for the fight which seems to be something that Rafa has to have in his players. Forster has gone backwards massively since his injury and I'd take Dubravka any day. Bertrand will go to Liverpool probably.

Stoke, again if we're looking at realistic signings I don't think I'd want any of their players. Shaqiri is a petulant prick and will move to Italy or Spain. Their new RB has looked decent enough and could be a good backup.

Palace, nothing really. I don't get the zaha hype and wouldn't pay what they'd want. Benteke would be similarly overpriced. Townsend? I'd rather have Kenedy.

Not sure I'd want anyone from Swansea or Huddersfield. Clucas has done okay, Mawson will probably go for stupid money, Mooy seems like a prick.

Do people think we'll get Kennedy next season? Maybe a loan but I think (austerity) Chelsea would price us out. New manager may even want to play him a bit (Hazard leaving). I reckon they'd want 15-20m for him. not sure the fat man would sanction it after spending 12m on Murphy.

Cedric, Romeu and Tadic would walk into our team. Redmond is better than all of our wingers, there's no way Kennedy will stay so we will need to strengthen in that area. I'd still have Townsend back, much better than Ritchie. Zaha is obviously an unrealistic target for us, he'll end up at a Champions League side. Gutted he chose to play for Ivory Coast, be could have won England the World Cup!

Southampton are the key team there. Quite a few capable Prem players in their squad.

I don't think we'll buy many PL based players purely as the prices are absurdly high.

Spain and France you think? Rafa has a network right? Now that Carr's gone. Youngsters from Championship maybe?

So much uncertainty about how we'll approach the summer, given Ashley wants to sell

True but there’s obviously times where a team that has capable players gets relegated. I mean 2 season ago we had a host of prem players that simply had a bad season or didn’t click for whatever reasons but were obviously prem player nonetheless

I'd suggest we had a team of pretty bad to mediocre Prem players, plus Wijnaldum (at home only.). That's not the standard we need to be going for again.

Badou Ndiaye from Stoke, bought him in January, we were linked too, think he would be an upgrade to our CM

Can't say he looks to have stood out much, albeit he's adapting to a new league in a new side. The couple of Stoke ST holders I know hardly ever mention him. This summer I'd like to see us add quality rather than people who might come good.

Palace have a good right back don't they? Ward? If have him, but they won't be relegated realistically

You think we’re above the likes of Janmaat, Thauvin, Lascelles, Mitrovic, Shelvey, Townsend etc? Yikes
