Squad Next Season (if Ashley keeps his word)

Post by rgibson1892 » Mon May 14, 2018 10:27 am

So if Fat Ashley keeps his word and give Rafa “every penny the club generates” what do you think the squad will be/what do you want it to be come the seasons start?

I think Rafa will definitely sell these players..

Mitrovic £20-25 million
Mbemba £10 million

So assuming the clubs 10th place finish + sky money generates £100 million, we should be looking at an £130 million transfer kitty? <laugh>

As if Ashley will do that!

I personally would keep both Mbemba and Mitro, and get rid of these players...

Joselu £3 million
Manquillo £3 million
Darlow £6 million
Gayle £10 million
Haidara FREE
Gamez FREE

Leaving “£120 million” to sign (this is hopeful and optimistic, but if Rafa is given funds I’m sure he can convince players to come with him being Rafa)

Dubravka £7 million
Kenedy £30 million (I think it would be a good move for him even if he just stayed with us for a few years, and Rafa if given funds could pull it off)
Shaw £20 million
Doucoure £20 million (haven’t seen much of him but we need a new enforcer, and apparently he’s been good and could be getable)
Iheanacho £30 million
New back up RB to challenge Yedlin £13 million or less

= £120 million spent

Dubravka
Yedlin Lejeune Lascelles Shaw
Ritchie Shelvey Doucoure Kenedy
Perez
Mitrovic

Subs: Elliot Clark Dummett Diame Merino Atsu Iheanacho

Res: Woodman Murphy Armstrong Hayden Aarons Mbemba Lazaar & new RB etc...

I think if we are to challenge for top 6, as good as Diame and Dummett have been, they aren’t at that level and need upgrades but I do think both of them, and even Ritchie if he doesn’t start as much are integral to the squad for their ability to give 110% for the shirt, and Dummett can play anywhere across the back 4.

What would you all like to see/think we will see?

To be fair I can see along with Mitro and Mbemba having no future, I can see Merino leaving, and think Aarons and Lazaar have no future, as for Armstrong, Woodman and co... who knows?

Welcome <gent>

Couple of issues here. Mitro doesn't work in our team, he's on fire at Fulham but they have different players, different tactics, a different manager etc. There's no way on Earth we'd get £20-25m for him, nor will we get £10m for Gayle.

The prize money and TV money also have to go on running the club, including the pretty large wage bill. I think what Ashley is getting at is that Benitez will get whatever is left of the revenue after all of those costs, which probably isn't much.

If we spent £50m on crocks like Shaw and Iheanacho, I'd stop following the club. It would also be crazy to spend £30m on a player and stick him on the bench as an understudy to Mitro.
Kindly deeds done for free!

I'd be amazed if we didn't get at least £10m for Gayle, he guarantees you goals in the Championship and several teams would pay that fee. He's only 27. Didn't we turn down £15m from Fulham last summer? Same goes for Mitro, can't see why we couldn't easily get £15-20m when you factor in his international scoring record too.

If we're replacing a full back it's the right rather than the left that has to be the priority.

Also don't forget that there's a list of players we absolutely have to get shot of (and no guarantee we'll be able to do it) before we even consider the ones who actually make the squad. Apologies if any of these are out of contract, I know for certain a good chunk aren't.

Lazaar, Sels, Colback, Saivet (who I still think could be decent), Aarons, plus Mitro sadly. Gamez and Haidara are thankfully off next month.

I'd happily stick with Dummett at LB too, changing both fullbacks in summer might unsettle things too much. I'd prefer a new RB (no idea who) and keep Yedlin as back up.

I for one won't believe Ashley until it's confirmed he's vomited in the pub fireplace after meeting with Rafa.

Just to re-iterate the point made above, even if we have £120m, you can't say 120 goes on transfers. for every big signing there's a big impact on the wage bill

Yep, £50k a week over 4 years is £10m and that's before bonuses, signing on fees etc. So if you spend £25m on Player X it probably costs the thick end of £40m all in, if not more <erk>

Although hopefully we shift a few to free up wages and bring in some funds.

Good luck with that.

Expectations for anything good to happen are on the bare minimum as always in the last 10 years. And the expectations of dire straits are on highest level as always in the last 10 years.

And welcome!

Using gross revenue instead of net revenue to determine how much will be spent seems a bit silly.

Also, as much as I was interested in Iheanacho before this season, he hasn't played well enough to feel confident spending 30m on him. That's the kind of financial risk that can cripple a club (like ours) if it goes wrong.

As for Mitro, I agree that Rafa doesn't appear to want him (though I think we would have sold him in the winter when Rafa was desperate for funds if there was no chance for a return), I don't think it's proven he can't work in the setup, seeing as I think he does a better job of the things Joselu and Slimani were brought in to do.

So much this. "He doesn't fit the system" is the worst Toonforum-ism since "Danny Simpson isn't s****" or "Oh, the goal difference".

Shaw??? Why?! He'd cost us an arm and a leg in his transfer fee and wages and tbh he's no better than Dummett. Avoid like the plague.

Welcome. I think you are a bit too optimistic in terms of Ashley's promises...
Ashley's promises can compare with lies, they are basically the same.
I would be amazed if we even broke our transfer record, which btw, is 12 or something years old.
I might sound a bit doom and gloom for you, but... yeah.

Id sell all mentioned if it gave us £150m to invest.

Gk- Dubravka £4.2?
LB - Sessegnon/Tierney £20m highly unlikely but I'd seriously push for these types of prospects
RB ?
CB ?
CM - Badou Ndiaye - £13m
CAM - ?
LW - Kenedy- £25m
RW - Bamba - Free
ST - Dost or Jorgensen £25m
ST - Jordan Ayew £10-15m?
