World Cup XI

Post by beardface » Sat Jun 16, 2018 8:46 pm

Picking only one player per nation, from the 32 teams at the World Cup. What’s the best starting 11 you can make? <scratch>

I got as far as a front 3 of Salah, Ronaldo and Messi.

Give it a go.
De Gea
(Spain)

Santiago Arias - Mats Hummels - Samuel Umtiti -Ricardo Rodriquez
(Columbia) - (Germany) - (France) - (Switzerland)

Eric Dier
(England)
De Bruyne - Banega
(Belgium) - (Argentina)

Mo Salah - Cristiano Ronaldo- Neymar Jr
(Egypt) - (Portugal) - (Brazil)

Maybe somewhat controversial not having Messi <laugh> Not for nothing, but there's no way he and Ronaldo would be able to play together. Alternative would mean dropping Neymar, which would then open up Thiago Silva for defence. Would have to drop Banega if including Messi, so would likely replace with Dzagoev.

Forgot about Modric, good shout. Him or Kovacic possibly a better bet for Banega in midfield.

I'd forgot about Neymar when I was trying to come up with a team. Might have to exclude him for Marcelo though, no idea what other LB would be a viable option <worried>

Yeah it's harder than it looks in parts <laugh> I went with Rodriquez just because he did quite well at Wolfsburg and is good on FM. Dunno how he's done since going to Milan tho.

1 GK

Some defenders. 3?

Those blokes in the middle... Maybe a few ito play in defence but bomb forward. Let's go for 2 of them and then some others to fill in central positions.

Ronaldo

And of course Peruvians to be the 12th man.

I'm surprised you didn't put a few scottish midfielders in there. Oh wait.

I know it's delusional, but I'm sitting here wishing for a miracle. I want England to win a world cup in my lifetime and this is the best we've looked in decades.

This is definitely the best chance we have. All the big boys are looking poor. It's like when Leicester won the Premier League.
