Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
Rafa is an honorable man and will see out his contract, no way will he sign a new one after continued lack of investment.

Rafa is an honourable man getting paid an absolute fortune. No chance he walks.

He could easily get similar money elsewhere if that's what mattered.

Suppose he wasn't moaning when he was spending Premier league budgets in the championship. He'll go at end of season and in a way it'll end all this draining talk of his future every other day.
Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
I don't think he could. He's one of the highest paid managers around.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 11:24 amHe could easily get similar money elsewhere if that's what mattered.
Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
No he’s not he could have got more at West Ham and Everton for a start.ALF wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:37 pmI don't think he could. He's one of the highest paid managers around.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 11:24 am

He's going without a doubt and who would blame him. We all know how lucky we are to have him but those who run our club are clueless. When he goes we'll be in real trouble.

I realise that's a couple of years old but I highly doubt half of Europe has upped their manager wage that much. Everton didn't want him and West Ham got PL winner Pellegrini. Which of those jobs could he walk into?

Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
I think his point was a club like Everton or West Ham would pay those kind of wages, rather than they'd specifically want Rafa. And West Ham clearly did want him, at least twice. The fact that in that link Koeman at Everton earns more than Benitez at the time illustrates that they'd be willing to up his salary. Weren't they willing to pay something like 10m just to break Silva's contract at Watford?ALF wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:51 pmhttps://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/f ... t-11693263

I don't disagree there. But the clubs that will match his big wages wouldn't want him. If he walked away the day after the window shut then he wouldn't walk into another job and get paid what he's on now for a long time.CIH wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 1:21 pmI think his point was a club like Everton or West Ham would pay those kind of wages, rather than they'd specifically want Rafa. Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
Exactly. I just hope when Rafa does walk next summer and we end up with Malky Mackay that Alf never moans once, as this is as good as it gets.
Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
I don't think we'll replace him with better when he leaves in May. But just because we're not getting better it doesn't mean that I'm going to kid myself and pretend he's staying here out of loyalty and love for the fans.

Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
Of course he'd never have come here (or stayed) without a hefty contract, but there is a genuine affinity with the fans and the area that is real. If he was only in it for the money I doubt he'd do all the extra things that he gets involved in.

Re: Do you think Rafa will walk
I don’t believe this either, he’ll leave in the summer. Separate to you criticising most of, if not everything he does though.

I don't think anyone seriously expects him to walk after the window shuts. He'll see out his contract, and he will be on a few shortlists come next summer.ALF wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 1:24 pmI don't disagree there. Hardly criticising everything he does, just actually criticise things that deserve to be criticised unlike the fans we have who blindly worship him.

I think there's no way on earth he'll stay after his contact runs out if Ashley's still here and personally I think privately that will please Ashley.
Rafa doesn't fit the yes man category that every other manager Ashley has hired.
