Match day thread - Cardiff v NUFC

Post by Toondes » Fri Aug 17, 2018 8:50 pm

Cardiff City (a)

Saturday sees United venture to South Wales for a 12.30pm Premier League kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium that will be televised live by Sky Sports.

The Magpies are bidding for an eleventh successive league victory over the Bluebirds, having not dropped a point against them since a 0-1 loss at Ninian Park back in February 1981.

NUFC: Florian Lejeune is a long-term absentee while DeAndre Yedlin has unexpectedly returned to training following his injury scare on Saturday but isn't in the travelling party for this game.

If you're looking for a pre-match venue in Cardiff, the Pontcanna Inn is 1.2 miles away from the ground and open from 10am for drink (8am food) details here

CCFC: Aron Gunnarsson is sidelined and Kenneth Zohore is doubtful.

Neil Warnock's Bluebirds began life back in the Premier League on Saturday with a 0-2 loss at Bournemouth.

Ineligible to play against his parent club was Harry Arter but he's expected to face United. Fellow new boy Victor Camarasa may make his City debut, while Josh Murphy (brother of Jacob) could be promoted from the bench to the starting lineup.

Referee: Craig Pawson - the South Yorkshire whistler found his red card at the weekend in the Wolves v Everton game. His last Toon outing was the 1-0 home victory over Manchester United back in February.

If we play like we did last week (in parts) and Cardiff play like they did v Bournemouth then we'll win this.

game is at 4:30am for me here in California, I'll do my best to wake up in time for it then try to go back to sleep some more.

Hope Rondon starts tomorrow!

I was in Seattle for the last derby game, I think it was about a 430am kick off as well. Went to the Sounders match the night before and was quite tanked up. Wasn't too happy about getting up, but at least we finally got a point <awe>

"The Magpies are bidding for an eleventh successive league victory over the Bluebirds, having not dropped a point against them since a 0-1 loss at Ninian Park back in February 1981."
- that's actually an incredible stat!

Oh crap. I hate stats like that. Compounds my thoughts that we'll lose today.

Missed the Spurs game last week so our season starts today in my eyes <whistle>

Got a good feeling but it’s their first home game of the season back in the Premier League so they’ll be up for it.

Cardiff away was one of my favourite games of our championship season. Hopefully we can replicate the result.

Stats should count for nothing, but that really is a huge monkey that we are carrying.

This is a game both teams need to win ..... incredible to be thinking that so early in the season

Same team except Manquillo. No surprises then. Would have preferred Muto/Rondon to have started but Joselu for his work-rate and goal deserves to get the nod. Winnable game but this is nufc we're talking about, watch us lose 0-2 then beat Chelsea next week. :bandit: <run> <awe> <awe>

Really impressed with Carragher’s comments on us, even putting Bellamy in his place when trying to defend Ashley as a ‘shrewd business man who succeeds in everything he does’ - “apart from being Newcastle chairman” <laugh>

Manquillo vs their wingers could be interesting...

Surprised rondon doesn't start over Joselu, might lack cutting edge
