He won't. Read an article the other day saying if we went down his valuation will remain the same, and one of the reasons he ditched Stavely was her pushing to obtain a lower valuation if we had gotten relegated last season.Colly wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:11 amThe only positive argument for relegation is that Ashley might sell for a lower fee, but even that depends on funding a buyer who'd want a Championship club which is far less attractive than the crazy money you get for 17th in the Premier League.Bodacious Benny wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:03 am
Well first time in ‘The Championship’ as it is now.
At the very least, Ashley will never drop his valuation below what we owe him. And if we went down and he had to pump more money in to keep the club afloat, in all likelihood we'll be stuck with him forever. In my mind the hopes of him selling us rest purely on us being a PL club so it is vital we stay up this year for that reason alone.
There are no positives to relegation at all, as you outlined. People wishing for it are blinkered by the anomaly of our last two seasons in the Championship. I'd rather see us scrapping for 17th in the Premier League every year then settling for 13th in the Championship. People moaned last time about us actually having to fight for promotion. Imagine scrapping for points against Blackburn and Reading every week? No thanks.
