League commissioners love to take credit for tv revenues increasing on their watch (Roger Goodell of the NFL and his $60 million per season wages say hello), and I get that it's probably one of the most notable KPIs for evaluating their job (they exist in the position to make money for everyone), but the question still stands whether a different commissioner would have done any worse.
True, but there was no other person in charge during his tenure.

A pay off/cheers of that amount is small change to current top tier clubs.

It is small change, but it's utterly absurd that a football club that has a foodbank outside it on a matchday should give quarter of a million pounds to a well paid exec as a present. Just give him a f***ing tie.

I'd add, that yes, revenues have sky rocketed on his watch, but so have the costs of doing business.
