Yeah Maths has never been my strong point <laugh>

Seen that Harry Kane is out for a month hopefully he'll miss our game which again hopefully without Son too they will be a less daunting task
Let’s add maths to the list of things you aren’t good at, along with transfer rumours <roll>

Going from the last 10 years 34(.7) points is the average of points accumulated by the team who finish 18th. As we are currently on 18 points that would mean we need at least 1.25 points per game until the end of the season or 16.7 points.
Below is my prediction

Cardiff (H) - win- 3
Man City (H) Loss- 0
Spurs (A) Loss- 0
Huddersfield (H) win- 6
Burnley (H) - Draw- 7
West Ham (A) - loss-0
Everton (H)- Draw - 8
Bournemouth-(a)-Draw-9
Arsenal (a) - loss- 0
Palace-(h) win 12
Leicester (a) draw- 13
Southampton (h)-win- 16
Wolves (a) draw- 17
Liverpool (H)- loss- 0
Fulham (a) - win -20

Giving us a total of 38 points.

I actually think depending on how the league title goes in the last few weeks we could even take points from Liverpool and we have a decent record against Spurs too so I wouldn't rule out a point or a surprise win there.

All in all I think we'll stay up as I can't see Fulham, Huddersfield or Cardiff reaching 35 points.

We'll stay up. We're in the middle of a ridiculously tough run of fixtures and are still only 1 point from safety. After the Spurs game every game is winnable bar the Arsenal and Liverpool games. Not sure many teams around us will have as favourable a run-in as we do. Rafa will graft us out enough points to get over the line.

Having said that if we lose to Cardiff I'll be a bit worried. We can't keep gifting s*** teams points at home.

On paper we can stay up, my worry is that by the time we get to those ‘easy’ games we’ll have a team of players with very little confidence and potentially several points from safety. Cardiff will be key to survival. Games like Burnley and Southampton at home aren’t a given now as both have improved.

We've managed to have sudden turn-arounds following long runs of poor form the past couple years, but I agree with you, it's hard to keep having cycles like that, and not eventually forget how to play well enough to win.

He scored in their last game. Sort of.

Here is my ten penneth

Currently on 21 points - Require 35

Man City (H) Loss- 21
Spurs (A) Loss- 21
Huddersfield (H) win- 24
Burnley (H) - win - 27
West Ham (A) - Draw -28
Everton (H)- Draw - 29
Bournemouth-(a)-Loss -29
Arsenal (a) - loss- 29
Palace-(h) Draw- 30
Leicester (a) Loss - 30
Southampton (h)- Draw - 31
Wolves (a) draw- 32
Liverpool (H)- loss- 32
Fulham (a) - win -35

Giving us a total of 35 points.

Some margin for error in there: We might beat Palace at home or Southampton at home - giving us 37.
Its possible we could lose at hammers and beat Everton or Bournemouth.

Either way I w think we will get above 33 points - and I'm not really sure Cardiff or Huddersfield will get near that this term. Fulham is the unknown.

I can't see Huddersfield, Fulham or Cardiff getting mid-30s.

Huddersfield - would need 8 wins from 15 games, not a chance in hell.
Fulham - would need 7 wins from 15 games, not a chance in hell.
Cardiff - would need 5 wins from 15 games to get to 34 points, very unlikely.

We probably only need 4 win and 2 or 3 draws to be safe (of course we'd like to be comfortable, but no way will we need 40 points). Given that we have Huddersfield, Burnley, Palace and Southampton all to play at home we should get some decent points there. The likes of Fulham and Leicester away could be draws, and Everton are very hit and miss so can get something from them at SJP. It won't be pretty but I really can't see the teams below us getting enough points. Even if we drop back into the bottom 3 if we lose to City and Spurs, the lowest we'll go is 18th and then we've got some winnable games.

Just out of interest these are the next three games for those involved in the relegation battle:-

CRYSTAL PALACE : Southampton (a), Fulham (h) & West Ham (h)
SOUTHAMPTON : Palace (h), Burnley (a) & Cardiff (h)
BURNLEY : Man Utd (a), Southampton (h) & Brighton (a)
NEWCASTLE UNITED : Man City (h), Spurs (a) & Wolves (a)
CARDIFF CITY : Arsenal (a), Bournemouth (h) & Southampton (a)
FULHAM : Brighton (h), Palace (a) & Man Utd (h)
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN : Everton (h), Chelsea (a) & Arsenal (h)

A few of the clubs around us will be picking up some points by virtue of the fact that so many play each other and it is entirely feasible that we will still be on 21 points after 26 games and back in the bottom 3 so, stating the bleeding obvious, it is absolutely vital that we win the home games against Huddersfield and Burnley.
